ASRock X79 Extreme 11 Owners Issues & Hopefully Fixes - Page 84

Also guys, I'm having some trouble updating my INF files (Chipset drivers) after installing Win 8.1 Pro (x64).

I downloaded the files from ASRock and the version there is 9.4.0.1026.

When I tried to install them, the dialog box opened and I clicked "Next" and it immediately said "Installation was successful" without installing anything!?! mad.gif

Tried a couple of times to no avail.

Then I went to Intel and downloaded the INF files manually (older version) and installed them and now the version in Device Manager says, "9.2.3.1032" for the Chipset drivers.

The chipset drivers, btw, are the ones for "Intel C600/X79 Series chipset PCI Express Root Port # - 1D1*" right?

How do I update the INF files (chipset drivers) to the latest version? Is 9.4.0.1026 the latest version?

run from a cmd and use -overall flag

4. LIST OF AVAILABLE COMMAND LINE FLAG OPTIONS
************************************************************
The Intel(R) Chipset Device Software supports several
command line flags for various installation options.

Below is a list of all the available command line flags that
may be used with the program call. Note that the '-L' and
the '-S' flags MUST be specified at the end of the command
line flag list.

Flag Description
----
-?
Displays the list of available command line
flags. This flag works in Interactive Mode only.

-A
Extracts the INF files and Readme to either
"C:\Program Files\Intel\InfInst" or the
directory specified using
the '-P' flag. The software will NOT install
these INF files to the system. This flag can
be combined only with the '-P' flag. All other
options will be ignored if the '-A' flag is
specified. This flag works in Interactive Mode
only.

-AONLY
Extracts the needed INF files to install on the
current system. If the install has been run once
successfully, '-AONLY' will not return any INFs
when used in conjunction with '-OVERALL' switch,
all the needed INFs for the system will be
extracted.

-B
Automatically reboots the system after
installation. This flag is ignored if '-A' flag
is specified. This flag works in either Silent
Mode or Interactive Mode.

-F2
Specifies an alternate location and name
of the log file created by InstallShield Silent.
This option is used for silent installation from
a CD. 'Path' indicates the directory path where
installation status is logged in file 'filename'.

-L
Specifies the language of the setup dialogs.
This flag works in Interactive Mode only.

-OVERALL
Updates ALL INF drivers on all available devices
even if third party drivers are currently installed.
This flag works in Interactive Mode only.

-OVERIDE
Updates the storage drivers even if a third
party storage driver is currently installed.
This flag works in Interactive Mode only.

-OVERWRITE
Ignores the overwrite warning dialog when
installing an older version of the software.

-P
Specifies the hard disk location to which the
INF program files are copied. If this flag is
not specified at the command line, the
directory is as follows:

C:\Program Files\Intel\INFInst

If this flag is used without the '-A' option,
only the Readme will be copied to
. The directory name can
include spaces, but then a pair of double quotes
(") must enclose the directory name. There should
not be any space between the switch '-p' and the
directory name. This flag works in either Silent
Mode or Interactive Mode.

-S
Runs the Installer in Silent Mode (no user
interface is displayed). This flag and the
'-L' flag must be placed at the end of the
command line flag list.

^I'm not sure how to run it from Command Prompt.

There is no "INFInst" file/program in the downloaded folder called "INF(v9.4.0.1026)"!?!

I navigated to that folder in CMD but I'm not sure how to run it to use that "-OVERALL" flag.

Help!?

EDIT: I found a "INFInst" folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel but it has only two files -- Readme.txt and License.txt.

No idea what to do!?!

Attempted to update to Win 8.1 but failed at the screen showing "initializing devices", the "dots" rotating at the bottom of the screen stopped rotating at 56%, it had to roll back to Win 8. I then went on MS site to read about 8.1 and realized that the update has nothing much to do w/ desktop... unless one cares about using a newer version of win defender/APPs for touch screen devices on a desktop. I'll wait it out before updating to 8.1 to avoid spending too much time to fiddle w/ drivers/any weird issues....

Thanks for reporting your issues to see if there is a solution out there Baasha. I'm not surprised there might be driver issues based on how the update failed on the "initializing devices" screen on my setup...

good luck!

Still not able to update the INF files -- would really appreciate some help!

How do I run the CMD to update the INF files?

I tried navigating to the folder in CMD and then typing, "Setup.exe -OVERALL" and that ran the program but it still says 9.2.3.1032.

Win 8.1 is quirky to say the least.

Go here: http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php/listes-constructeurs/33-intel/512-intel-chipset-3 and download 9.4.4.1006
(this download needs to be extracted into it's own folder).

Log into administrator account.
Pull up a cmd.exe console
branch into directory that the 9.4.4.1006 download is located

setup -overall

and it should install as if it was installing fresh and the installation window will display all the inf drivers installing.

Would you recommend updating the BIOS if I'm still on SB-E (3970X)? I know you have the 4960X now and that needs the newer BIOS but I'm not sure about my situation.

Also, installing a modded BIOS means voiding the warranty if something goes south right?

How's the modded BIOS so far?

I'm not sure about voiding the warranty. All the modified BIOS does is unlock some menu options that are hidden. You can change the QPI speed depending on what base clock you have. This may help get a high base clock stable. It also has base clock locking settings. This may make it easier for people to tweak the base clock higher if they have PCI frequency issues. There are a lot of other options in there that I really don't understand or use. There is a description of what each setting is, but that doesn't really help. I'm currently not using anything from the added sections. I just wanted to play around with it a bit to see what I could tweak.

Since the GTX 780 Ti is out I was able to get another GTX Titan at a great price. The problem I may have with 4 cards is that I want to use the front audio connection for the Creative Core3D. When I tried to put another card in the bottom slot in the past the front audio connector would be too high and make it impossible to fully seat the card. Is there a way I can fix this? An adapter perhaps, or maybe by doing my own modding to the connector?

Oh Adam, welcome to the wonderful world of 4 way. Good luck with that man.

Take a look earlier in this post, I discussed the same problem with my 4 way.

Take a look in this post. http://www.overclock.net/t/1407469/build-log-green-zilla-900d-quad-lightnings-5x1-eyefinity/200_100#post_21172301
