ASRock X79 Extreme 11 Owners Issues & Hopefully Fixes - Page 96

post #951 of 1199
OK, try those later.
just been playing BF4 at ultra settings 2560x1600 and didn't have any dips

And have you done the intel chipset driver installation with the -Overall command line flag?

I did a quick run of heaven at 2560x1600 and this is how the cards were monitored every 100ms;

* PCIE 3.0 lanes stay locked at 16x

Even when the problem happens, PCI-E 3.0 16X is always active and doesn't change. Bandwidth just drops and usage on two or more cards drops. If some cards run at 90%+ constant while others are no higher than 60% or 70% then that's a good indicator the problem has happened. Running a benchmark or using the PCI-E bandwidth test tool confirms the problem.

I'll get to it today, and monitor the GPU usage for that drop.

*I will run BF4 max settings 2560x1600 and monitor the performance with a few utilities to see any kind of funny business.

I have filled all the slots. I use Corsair vengeance 1600s. The 64 GB seems to be recognized and running fine

Just wondering... are the voltages on those 1.5V? I think that as long as you use 1.5V ram the board will support 64GB. Higher voltage ram is a crapshoot. G-Skill has finally posted their findings and they have 1866 ram at 1.5V @ 10-11-10-30 for 8GB sticks. Anything with lower latency are 4GB sticks. The low profile Ares F3-1866C10Q-32GAB and the RipjawsZ F3-14900CL10Q-32GBZL. These are 32GB Quad kits using 4 sticks. I have managed to run 64GB of 2400 RipjawsZ at 2133 1.65V and it is stable but it is not stable at 2400.

One last thought... I did manage to lower the latency on the 2400 below the stock settings and they remain stable.

Yes, these are 1.5 volt DIMM I am not knowledgeable enough to speak to higher voltages. I know that I had an ASUS Rampage IV Extreme and it would only see 16gb. I had to return it because of that and other problems. The new one of those saw the entire 64gb
post #958 of 1199
I have an Asus Rampage IV Extreme (RIVE) MB as well. I have 3 different sets of 64GB 2400 ram and that board sees every one of those sets and runs perfectly on any of them. I am checking out the RIVBE motherboard ATM comparing it to my ASRock X79 Extreme11. I already have a 3970X processor so I want to carry that forward onto the new RIVBE if I decide to go that way. The whole board is custom tuned for the new IB-E CPU's what I want to know is if my 3970X will suffer or do better on the new MB. Coming this fall Intel will launch the X99 chipset. This chipset comes with a few pitfalls. The socket 2011-0 is redesigned and will be the socket 2011-3 which will most likely turn into socket 2013. Nothing but the Haswell-E and newer cpu's will be compatible. The Dimm slots are redesigned as well to run DDR4 Ram. It has more pins so no older ram will work in the board. That means that you will need to buy a brand new X99 MB, Haswell-E cpu, and DDR4 memory. All three will also be the most expensive of thier kind because they will all be the latest technology. It's the normal progression of things. I can't wait to see the specs and benchmarks once they go on sale but as for buying one I will need to win the lottery for that to happen.

One of your PLX chips might be faulty. You say that 2 cards drop down right? It stands to reason that 2 slots dropping would likely be caused by 1 of the chips. You have tried shuffling your video cards around to isolate whether it's card related or slot related. If it's slot related then I would suspect a bad PLX chip.
