ASRock X79 Extreme 11 Owners Issues & Hopefully Fixes - Page 100

Oh.. and how come the cpu temp climbs up towards 83c ! with the asrock mainboard on my oversized watercooling, and it NEVER went past 40c on my asus rampage iv with the identical setup? I've even got a lover overclock then I did on the asus ? Right now according to Core temp, I'm at 43c, idle... that's just not right, the cpu block is cool to the touch, and if it's 20c, then the cpu sure as heck isn't 43c...

Now it's at 4.6 ghz @ 1.352v Prime95 @ 100% load,

cpu-z shows 1.344v 4598.93 MHz,
core temp is showing VID at 1.3861v and temps between 53 and 62c with max readings at 83c

That's not TO bad is it ? Core temp is calculating Cpu power at 162w...

I ran it at 4.7 ghz on my rampage iv, with much lower temperatures.

I found the issue, of course....

The V-core shown in cpu id and core temp was wrong, in reality it was at 1.46v ! No wonder it got hot.... smile.gif

Now it's down at 1.384v prime95 stable at 4.6 GHz and temperature is at 62c @ 100% load with a prime95 torture test for the last hour or so..

I'm going to lower it gradually until it becomes unstable, then raise it a little.

Received the extender (http://simaintl.com/store/PEXP16-SX.html) to address the Slot 7 problem I was having. It works fine, although securing a board to the case is a bit tricky with it now raised up about a centimeter. Easily clears all the headers near Slot 7, however. Did encounter one problem. With my graphics board (GTX 770) in that slot, it was not recognized completely and had diminished screen resolution. The nVidia control panel also did not work. When I put the graphics board in Slot 5 and instead put Tesla computing GPUs in Slots 1, 3, and 7, all was fine. On to stress testing.

They just simply need to make 10 pcie slot motherboards now, no argument against it.

I have an 8-slot PCIe supercomputer at work that I built a few years ago. That thing, however, roars like a jet engine and throws off an unbelieveable amount of heat when it is going full tilt. On the other hand, it advanced my rank in Folding@Home like nothing I've ever seen.thumb.gif

I ran into the same problem. What I did was buy some 10 pin 90 degree connectors, cut off the appropriate pin and remove the existing USB connector. I replaced them with the 90 degree ones and now there is no interference. It works for the sound connector as well. You just need to cut off a different pin when you put in the new connector.

That makes sense because when you connect the sli bridges, the first card (slot 1) connects to the second (slot 3). the second to the fourth (slot 7) and the fourth to the third (slot 5). Which means that slot 5 is the last in the chain.

Have never used used SLI so I hadn't thought through the configuration. Thanks for the clarification.
