Other then that you are pretty much right.
The class was imbalanced.
I remember the solo reason to bring class like warlock in raid is to teleport members.
PvP was completely imbalance. Warlock is called raid boss for a good reason. 20? second fear with no DR.

muahahaha the good old days

First world problems?

Easily over half of this amount is from asia and they don't pay monthly fees but in other ways.

Its less then 9.1.. Whatever the total amount of copies of Cata that sold is the real amount of players.

Very true... it sold about 4.7 million the first month, probably most of the people still subscribed along with many re subscribers... I bet they sit around 6 or 7 million or so total sales, with maybe 5 million or so current subscribers. This is pure speculation on my part.

The last time I was in game, no one I played with was around anymore. The world (server) seemed empty by comparison to the previous year. I max leveled my toon out in WoTLK and soon after quit. My girlfriend went back for a few months after Cata came out and thought it was so bad she quit for good too.

Their subscription numbers are grossly exaggerated in my opinion. I've played private WoW servers that seemed to have more people playing than my old server.

I'm happy I sold my account a few months back. I loved the game and had been playing since vanilla but I finally had to grow up and call it quits. I was real bad about raiding for a few months, then quitting, then coming back lol. Now I'm enjoying a ton of different games I never "had time" for.

I feel like the game really went downhill when WOTLK came out. That pretty much ended the game for me. I played for a few more months and decided to never pick the game back up.

It's the only online game that I had thousands of hours invested into.

I am sorry but your speculation was wrong. In NA and EU the expansions are sold as separate games but in Asia they are not. Blizzard grants free upgrade of these expansions to their partners in Asia and in return, their partners have to sign a renewal contract and pay either portion of their profits or a fixed amount of money as business goes. So in those areas Blizzard does not sell any copies and instead just license their products. In China it was about 5 million players few years ago and I think even though the number might have been decreased it should still be a very large number like 3 - 4 millions. Actually since Panda has a special spot in Chinese so I think the number will actually go up when the next expansion releases.

I started playing the day of release and finally quit just over a year ago, I could not find any reason time log on anymore.
That's a long time to play anything especially considering I was sick of raiding after Bwl and gave up my core group status. I only filled holes in line ups for every raid after that if the guild needed. I basically only focused on arena and messed around in bg's for years.

After All the hours and really good times I had I guess I would have to say it might be the best game I have played. I W
was an avid cs and D2 player before it came out then only once and a while I'd reinstall cs and play a bit. other than that I played no other games.

Now playing bf3 almost exclusively I find myself looking for that type of game experience. over the years I did try most mmos hoping the PvP would be better ( war, aoc were my biggest hopes ) they all fell short for one reason or another. I had huge hopes for swtor and d3, like really really high hopes. Now both are uninstalled.

Now I'm looking to gw2 to give me something other than bf3 ( which I do love given a few things needing attention ) but now I'm pretty skeptical.

This makes little sense.

Are you implying that Blizzard is lying about their subscriber count? I can tell you one reason as to why they wouldn't do that....

Activision/Blizzard is a publicly traded company, the subscriber count of WoW is a very important factor of their offering to their stock holders. In a number of earning calls Activision has stated that the health of WoW is paramount to their success as a business, at one point accounting for 80% of their profits. Which was later echoed in their End of Year filings, 2011 I believe. If they ever made an attempt to lie about their subscriber numbers, and it was found out, the Securities and Exchange Commission would have a hay day with them!

People think that these companies can just make up whatever number they like and publish it, and they think like this. and open their mouths, without even understanding how the world of business functions. Being a massive publicly traded company is not fun! The compliance lists that you have to follow are just insane, it is exactly why Mark Zukerberg didn't want to take Facebook public.

A privately held company is one thing, fairly easy to fudge numbers as you don't have a whole lot of people to answer to until you cross certain legal boundaries. Publicly traded? You really have no choice.
