Go pull the stock holder financials disclosure.
Should all be there.

Umm - that link i provided IS the financial disclosures - with gross revenue, operating expenses, and net income. I can't make it any clearer than that. You keep replying with opinions and non-factual statements... what gives?

That also tends to be the biggest revenue generator when it comes to OS licensing.
I would assume its not related to the percieved direction of Microsofts latest OS offerings, but more to cater to the growing user-base of Linux savvy folks, which has been long overdue wink.gif

Microsoft doesn't really make any money on its OS products, it never has. They are trying to fix that, a stupid decision if there ever was one. Also Valve has been out publically saying MS is commiting Operating System suicide with windows8, so I doubt its all about "linux users" and more about looking for a home for their product.

Misinformation.

Becuase THATS A LIE, and if you knew anything about manipulating gapp, I'd show you how they do profit attributions. If most share holders actually knew what microsoft losses on its OS, they would have Ballmer and Gates heads on a stick.

I assume you mean GAAP, and if so, do you have any proof?

Right? I'm failing to see how they wouldn't make billions on it... 90% of computers run Windows... as of April 2012 almost 40% of them were Windows 7.

Windows 7 has sold roughly 600 million copies. Now, I'm sure a bunch are to OEMs and the like... but let's say the AVERAGE is $50 a pop. That's factoring tons of OEM copies to Dell, HP, etc, system builder editions (OEM copies) from Newegg, upgrades, and full boat retail copies...

$30,000,000,000 on sales alone if that $50 is accurate.

Are you telling me the creation and marketing of Windows7 cost MORE than $30 billion? I'm calling your bluff, good sir.

Not only that but he is basically claiming Microsofts accounting department turned a "huge loss" into 12 billion in profit for one year. Not sure who's running that accounting department but that's some pretty slick work.

Also Valve is not saying Microsoft is commiting suicide. Valve and the people that have spoke out against Windows 8 have done it based purely on the fact that it has it's own storefront. If you think there is any other reason you are fooling yourself.

This also. I'm hoping Microsoft doesn't go over the top with it, and keeps it as a competitor to the likes of Origin and Steam for games, but also offers other digital copies of programs such as image and movie editing software. As long as they're priced competitively, I have no reason why not to purchase from Microsoft. I'm confident that they'll be long standing enough to get my money's worth from purchases.
