[PC Mag] Windows 8: Secure at the Deepest Level

If every computer had antivirus software running, life would be tough for bot herders and cyber crooks. Their ability to orchestrate spam campaigns and denial of service attacks relies on a plentiful supply of unprotected computers. Windows 8 will put the squeeze on those creeps. It has antivirus protection built right in, enabled by default if no other antivirus is present. But the new security features at the very deepest level may be even more significant. To understand what Windows 8 adds, we need to look back at the evolution of operating system security.

Stopped reading there.

It's rather a cool article. It seems security was one of M$'s main concerns.

Interesting article. Don't be mislead by the intro, it's not about antivirus programs.

Right. My prediction? Major hotfixes and Windows Updates the first week of release to patch vulnerabilities and holes.

same. I expect there to be at least one super-critical fix within the first month, because of some massive back-door exploit.

Still, good to know that they're focusing on security. Hopefully it doesn't kill performance though.

That holds true for a lot of software, not just operating systems (and MSFT while at that)

What else do you expect? To find holes, this needs to be released to the millions of people that use it.
