Anyone used one of Phobia's 7mm decoupling shrouds? I'm looking at installing them on my push pull setup. I already have the little rubber sheets in between the top fans and my case. I'm either going to use the 7mm shrouds on both sides or just 20mm shrouds on the push side. I'd rather have the rubber ones if it would quiet the fans down so I could run them faster.

While a good article, it doesn't really help me solve my question. I want to know if using the 7mm shrouds in push and pull is better than a 20mm shroud in just pull or pull. I can't fit 20mm shourds on both sides without overlapping my mobo, and that would be too close to the MB block fitting.

Much more recent review by Martin. Shrouds had almost no affect on the MCR120.
Personally I would skip on the shrouds, the gains are going to be up to 1ËšC realistically.

I'm going with 20mm Shrouds in Pull on my RX240 in the bottom of my Switch. Don't know how much difference its going to make as my rad is low FPI and not very restricitve, so performance wise I don't know if it'll make any difference at all, however I am hoping that the extra distance will make the 1650RPM fans I put on it a bit quieter, don't have them yet, but the 1200RPMs I have get a little louder than I'd like at full bore, so hoping the shroud will help in that dept.
I've also got a the 7mm gaskets, and tbh honest I didn't like them, to soft I thought. Had trouble mounting them nicely so I just didn't bother with them in the end as I was gettting pissed off with them lol
What Rad are you going to be using? Higher FPI rads might see more benefit from shrouds than lower FPI.

the shroud was a big idea in earlier years for the high fpi radiators and high cfm fans. now
with fan technology as it is today, the shroud isn't really a concern. my big thermochill
120.3 has a 35mm and without it was horrendous in temps wYL dryer fans. now with a
2000rpm is much more tolerable and temperature conscience.

the only real reason to use a shroud of some kind is when you're using fans with rounded housing instead of the standard square housing so you actually trap the air flow into the rad, and the shroud is a thin 1/8" piece of acrylic you cut fan holes into

Cool I have a XSPC EX-420, and I'm adding a EX-240, and they are low FPI rads. I'll stick with the 7mm ones as they are rubber, and should help quite down the fans on the rad until I get a fan controller. Thanks for the help.

Actually at 19fpi linear, the EX are fairly dense. Especially when you consider that they use split fins, doubling the rows of fins, giving a total of 38 fins in the same space that the RX gives you 11...

I bought these shrouds to reduce fan vibrations, but I need longer 6-32 screws (on the way).
