Hey buddy, for your top panels after you've cut them, I would use a bit of JB Weld to fill in the gap. Sand it nice and smooth and you'll never even know it had been cut. You will have to re-paint the plastic panels but it will be worth it to have that tidy join! As for placement of the SSD and HDD, you can easily have the SSD mounted to the back of the motherboard tray (honestly, 3M double sided tape is all you ever need to mount an SSD vertically) however I think to mount the HDD you'll need to consider making a bracket to mount it elsewhere as there is not enough room behind the motherboard tray for it. This would be the least difficult position to mount it:

th_db35f042_ZKDRt.jpg

I've not seen it done before, but you could even consider making a bracket to slot into the pci slots of the case. Disguise your HDD as another add-in card smile.gif

One final thought is regarding the placement of the 120mm radiator. You'll need to measure the gap between the rad and psu very carefully as the cables just may not fit. Even with a modular psu. It's a pretty tiny gap there in your mockup so just remember to accommodate for those cables when you measure up how much of the case to chop off wink.gif Best recommendation I can make is to do a scale mockup of your plans in cardboard first. Sounds boring and time consuming, but it can show you important things you might overlook when designing in your head!!

Best of luck to you with this build. If you pull it off, it's going to be fantastic biggrin.gif And even if you don't, you will have learned a LOT and be better prepared for your next mod! Just go hard and have fun thumb.gif I'm subbed!

Gutting The Rest of The Case

So I went ahead and took out the mobo tray, 5.25 bays, HDD tray, and the PCI thingy. I now have a better idea how I am gonna make the cuts and mods which is nice as well thumb.gif

Here is the case with the bays gone Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Now with out the Mobo tray and PCI stuff Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

PCI Thingy Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I thought this was cool rolleyes.gifWarning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Rotated Mobo tray full size Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Rotated Mobo tray my size Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

So I am now planning on de-riveting the front panel of the case and cutting in down to the right size and cutting down the back panel of the case to size as well as the top and bottom. I will cut out the hole at the back of the case from the PCI slot and will cover it all up with a piece of metal or mesh or what ever cool thing I can think of (suggestions welcomed) I have to then reattach the mobo tray to the top of the case and somehow to the bottom (structural purposes) This all sounds easy enough so I am happy about that biggrin.gif The only problem being at the top of the case where my DVI plug wont have enough room to turn and go out the back so I wont be able to mount the Mobo tray right too the top but have it down a bit (spacer of some sorts) I will have to figure out something for the side panels as both the stock ones are of no use (dont have them any more because of my Core 1000).

YAY I feel special that your following biggrin.gif I will get some of the JB Weld and I like the idea of the SSD behind the mobo tray and in fact I will be able to fit the HDD behind there too because I plan on moving the entire tray into the middle of the case a bit more so that I can route some tubing behind the tray thumb.gif I will have to look into the 120mm rad placement and the PSU at a later time because I might be able to move the 120mm rad away from the PSU its self... confusing the way I said it but I hope it kinda makes sense.

Hmmm had no idea but dont think I will be needing them tongue.gif

I know this is a LONG update/post but it is needed redface.gifany ways I need some suggestions for the back of the case because I will be able to do whatever I want there and perhaps some for the side panels...

Thats all for about a week now as I will be going away but I will still be able to respond to suggestions and comments smile.gif

Thanks biggrin.gif

When I get back I will be trying to make a Google Sketch Up Model of this but at the moment I tried a bit but is there anyway to take apart a model? What I mean about this is I downloaded this CM 690 II ADV Model and I was able to play around with it a bit but is there anyway that I could 'cut' parts out of it? I am using sketch up for the second time so I am really noob at it and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance thumb.gif

EDIT: How do you actually make something like that model as well? The detail in it is so great especially when I downloaded my motherboard. How do you do it?

It'd be nice if you could just use a two finger gesture to invert a motherboard tray...

So im back and while not much will be done this week my goal is to work on my sketch up model. So far I am learning as I go but I cannot figure out how people do the tubing.... Is there a quick and easy way to put tubing into the models?

Subbed. No suggestions from me though, sorry. tongue.gif

That board rotation thing got my attention - it always does, lol - but what's striking is you plan to cut the board tray. Hah. Looking good, mate. thumb.gif
Hope I can think of a suggestion. lol.

Hi there mate, brilliant progress so far but regarding your question. I was trying to do the same with Sketchup and got a bit ratty with it. I'm currently using 3ds max 2013 but I found this for you.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iym533pfTbU

Have a look at some 3skeng plugin videos might help you out.
