Piledriver decent upgrade from Phenom?

I'm about to buy a Sabertooth 990fx and I am planning on upgrading to Piledriver when it gets released.

Apparently it has 10% higher performance compared to Bulldozer and uses less power. However it will still have a 32nm process.

Do you guys think it would be a decent upgrade from a Phenom x4 ii 955 overclocked to around 4.0ghz in terms of everything (video rendering to gaming)? How would it compare to let's say a 2500k?

any input would be great

Go 2500k if performance is your main priority. PileDriver/BullDozer can't compeat with an i5 2500k. I would stick with a 955BE over AMD current offerings, Maybe a 1090t if you found one.

Don't wast money on a BD upgrade. Go 2500k and clock the snot out of it.

You mean PD? I plan on wasting money on PD not BD. Upgrading to 2500k or 3570k would cost more than $275 with a decent motherboard, so I'm not too sure. still an option though...

BD can't compare with 2500k in terms of gaming, PD should catch up in gaming ..at least(hopefully, honestly.. AMD said BD was 50% over thuban, it ended up being worse in a lot of areas)

Yea, PD sorry.

To make my first post a little more clear. If money is tight stick with your 955BE. Its a solid performer, and is more than capable to doing anything(gaming or rendering) at very decent speeds.

If you are going to upgrade I would strongly suggest going intel. I perfer the SB over the IB personally. IB is a little faster but dose not clock as high as SB's on avrage. temps are higher too.

Another budget upgrade would be a 1090t or similar, not much of a gaming upgrade but will help with rendering a little bit.

In terms of video rendering, BD would definitely be an upgrade. As far as gaming is concerned, they are on par assuming you O.C. both to their max. Ivy Bridge is a side grade at very best compared SB (atleast in its current "tick" state) so 22nm is all hype at the moment. If you need proof of that, just look at the pricing diff. between the two.

Take it from those of us who've owned both platforms, a 2500k will net NO NOTICEABLE GAINS in terms of gaming (or day to day computing for that matter) over its amd counterparts. PD will definitely be an upgrade to a 955 oc'd to 4.0ghz. Check the following out.....

You say this because you've seen the benches? ..... love how fanboy's automaticly assume 2500k is better than any piledriver...

PD will have 16MB of L3 cache which is more than enough. It seems like AMD is doing their homework this time.
