Possibly Dead 6950 2GB Ref.

Thread Starter

So I finished installing my EK universal block on my HD6950 2GB reference card. I also have full copper RAM sinks and VRM MOSFETS by Enzotech. It did work for a few minutes then suddenly "BLACK SCREEN".

There are no burn marks on the PCB and I'm pretty sure the block was installed properly as it was running fine on 38*C and then the display died.

CPU was on 37*C

Here are the specs of my loop:

DazMode D5 Vario (Setting @ 5)

XSPC Black POM D5 Bay/Res Pump Top

XSPC RS240

XSPC RX120

XSPC Rasa

EK VGA Supreme HF - Plexi

Enzotech BMR C-1

Enzotech MOS C-1

I also followed one of the suggestions on the forums with how the loop was supposed to go.

XSPC Bay/Res >> XSPC RS240 XSPC >> Rasa CPU Block >> XSPC RX120 >> EK Univ. GPU Copper >> XSPC Bay/Res

I`m guessing my card is dead because of the following troubleshooting I did.

1.) Installed a second GPU on the same PCI-e slot and it works fine.

2.) Tried On-board display and works fine.

3.) Re-seated my univ. GPU block...no go.

Any other troubleshooting I should do before I go looking for a new GPU? I really want to save this GPU along with the W/C parts I bought.

Thanks again for the help!

Put the stock heat sink and fan on it. Then see if it power back on. I had that happen with one of my gpus. It went out like that and then after putting the retail heat sink and fan on it. It started up again. Then I put the block back on it and it worked fine. Thanks

Sounds like you need to do a rma then. If it is still acting up with the stock heat sink. then sounds like the card maybe dead. Thanks

Can't RMA due to the fact that this card has been modded to hell and back and passing through 2 after market coolers.

Thanks for the advice and the help! +rep for the additional troubleshooting steps.

Anyone else care to chime in?

You could bake it if nothing else works.
There are guides on the forums.

Remove all / clean GPU then bake right side up ( gpu facing up ). Most people say 350 for 10 minutes, put the card in while it is preheating and let it cool down for additional 10 minutes in the oven once you turn it off. Take it out gently and let it cool down for another 45 minutes then reinstall your stock heatsink and pray.

This guide is using a Nvidia GPU but they are Pretty Much the same - http://www.overclock.net/t/623774/guide-total-noobs-guide-to-baking-a-gpu
This Guide Shows you to bake it Facing down but as most peple suggest to bake facing up so you dont get any Components falling off e.g Vrms, Mosfets.
