Windows 7 not installing

Thread Starter
I got a new motherboard and cpu. i installed them and was going to do a fresh install of win7 on the hard drive i was using before. I didn't have a USB so I decided to use my iPhone as a USB drive and boot off of that. The copying takes about 2 seconds at most but the expanding takes about 2 hours and when it is at ~97% it fails and gives an error. 0x80070570 it look like what the photo shows but with the error code i put. I need a fix fast and thanks

I did a quick Google search of that error code, and Microsoft says that error code usually means that the media is faulty. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/windows-7-installation-error-0x80070017/48e83efd-187e-4974-b819-34bcebd2b107

You should first try to put W7 on a DVD drive or a USB flash drive (assuming you can find one, since you said you didn't have one). If that doesn't work, then you should redownload the windows .iso from here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds . It should be under "Windows 7 ISO download links:".

thanks for the quick reply, i did download the iso from there and it took forever because my internet just plain sucks. So i do not want to download it again tongue.gif. Right now i am trying to install it again just in case a miracle happens because you never know. Anyways, im going and try to go to target or somewhere to get a USB drive real quick so i can test that out.

I have a lot of experience from this. I have tried to install through a external HDD, Dx memory stick going through a card reader, even once through a camera. You cannot use any kind of hub device to install windows from. DVD or USB Stick only. It seems to be a limitation with the installer.

Try using the Microsoft USB/DVD tool available here: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

and use a flash drive.

If you use third party copy software like TeraCopy to manually copy installation files to a USB drive, it sometimes has permissions issues copying files. I've had problems with tera copy not copying the installation files properly and not giving any warning. I look at the copied data and a bunch in the EFI folder were 0 KB.

The resulting problem was similar to the error you experienced, but saying there were missing device drivers and gave me an option to browse for them, but the installation was broken (i pointed it at AHCI drivers, chipset drivers, USB 3.0 drivers, etc and none worked).

Where they using it on a straight USB Stick or though a reader/hub device. You cannot have some kind of intermediary device in there. I've gotten this same error and I have spent days on this experimenting.

For doing a lot of computer at once... network install is the only way to go! thumb.gif
