[ABI] Price and Screen Sizes to Restrict OLED TVs to Less Than 1% of Market Through 2013

“Primary research conducted in the US continues to suggest most consumers place price and screen size above all other factors,” says practice director Sam Rosen. “While display technology is cited as very important as well, the prices OLED TVs are expected to command, at least through 2013, will make it a difficult sell for most consumers.”

Senior analyst Michael Inouye added, “Picture quality is also highlighted as a key benefit for OLED screens, but consumer behavior suggests this might not engender as much perceived value as some might presuppose. Higher contrast ratios and more vibrant colors while nice, will continue to lose out to screen size and price for those consumers who embrace and fully enjoy streaming video, think Blu-ray picture is good, but still enjoy DVD. In the end OLED TVs, at least in the beginning, will likely be more of a statement of status or strong appreciation of form factor than video quality.”

So, if you are waiting for an OLED screen as your next upgrade, don't. Get out there, IPS is pretty good at the moment, also price-wise.

Translation:

You are being priced out of OLED until you buy all this smart LED 3D TV stock you were supposed to be going nuts over.

I'm starting to loos faith that we will ever see affordable OLED screens. Like you said IPS tech is coming down in price quick and the high end models have truly fantastic image quality.

There isn't a single consumer oled tv out yet and people are already complaining it's too expansive...

Everything will be oled before long, it's just so much better than everything else offered.

you are indeed right. eventually the industry will switch to OLED, for better colours, black, power efficiency and the ability to reach 400+Hz.
the article says that it may take longer than we hope.

I just want a good 30-35" screen with good picture quality and both digital and analog input. I don't need bigger.

At least give us a 24-30" OLED PC monitor. Samsung, LG, ASUS, Dell, anyone?

1080p. On a 30-35" screen from 10 feet away. Can't be bigger than that.
