CM Storm Spawn would probably be good for CAD.

I work on Autocad also and have used practically every mouse in existance. To me Autocad is very much like gaming in that it requires alot of quick, precise movements all over the screen.
After using low res, 800 to 2000 dpi mice for years, I bought a Logitech G500 and started trying higher dpi, 3200 to 5700 and found the higher resolution to be much better suited for the 27" monitor I use, covering the entire screen with much smaller mouse movements.
Also I like a simple, comfortable, high quality mouse without a bunch of bells and whistles. Left, Right click, back and forth buttons is all I need.
I'd suggest the following in no order of preference:

Logitech G500
Logitech G600 if you want to program keystrokes or macros
Corsair Vengence M60, my current favorite
I'll second the CMStorm Spawn, great little low frills mouse with excellent tracking.
Razer Deathadder

I can't agree more with this post. While its much more expensive than a mouse, the control you'll have with your 3D renders using an Intuos5 or Cintiq are unmatched. My Intuos 5 review should be up soon, if you're interested check back in a day or two.

Best,
George

How about a 3D mouse? I worked in CAD a lot and there's a ton of situations where I just want to move the model in and out of the screen, have more control rotating it etc. Never had one so I can't speak from experience.

As for Wacom - I don't see the point using one with Solidworks. Accuracy in selecting lines, edges, surfaces is pretty important, as is rotating and navigating in 3D. A 5 year old could do most of the actual drawing necessary for sketches, you just need the general shape laid out and the rest is dimensioning. I also don't see how it'd be easier for navigating.

you can draw with a pen faster than you can move around a mouse.
also you have more fluid lines because you aren't trying to move your entire hand around. the brain functions better with the basic pointing of your finger (like when using a pen your pointer finger is pointing at the line you are drawing.) there's a much better way to say it but that gets you in the ball park of "why".

if you never used one, and do 3d i highly recommend you try. like night and day.

Have you ever done any Civil Engineering or Architectural Drawings with Autocad 2009 and up with one the Wacom's ? Just curious.

I didn't think so. With all due respect the touch/tablet devices are designed for 3D modeling, illusrators, designers, editing ect. They are really not idealy suited for production Autocad drawing of floor plans, site plans and other 2d work. Though the Op didn't mention what type of work he does exactly.
