We're hosted on a VDS so we have full control of the time in-game as it pulls from the OS. Due to the time of day (night) that the servers went live we thought it best to force daylight. We did this so that everyone could enjoy themselves and we could load test our first night of play. This morning we completed our first stages of testing and restored the time so it is accurate now. It is worth mentioning DayZCommander is reporting inaccurate time in the launcher but our title [GMT-6] and in-game are in sync.
As far as you two standing next to one another I'd say it was likely a sync issue client side.. I'm not sure how/if server in-game time is reported to the hive but that's the only thing I would imagine could cause something like that. At this point in the alpha if anything goes wrong it is safe to assume the hive is at fault. Thanks for letting us know and please let us know if any other weird things happen.
