Tri-Fire Eyefinity Bsod 116

Gave Amd another shot and I'm having issues, again . After running crysis 2 for 10-15 minutes. The game crashes and goes to bsod. I get error 116. I tried drivers 12.6, 12.4, 12.3, 12.1 and their respective caps. The cards are loading 99% in Eyefinity which was hard to achieve in the first place. Drivers 12.6 has poor 3dmark11 results but anything prior to this its ok. I have updated my mb to the most current stable version. Temps are ~70 for the top two cards, and 60 for the bottom card. Fraps says I'm getting ~60-80fps in the game. I did run the game in Eyefinity with two cards and it worked fine though with frames ~40-50. I'm running Crysis 2 @ 3240x1920, high settings, no dx11, and all ccc settings set to application default. My cards are in pcie slot #1, #3, and #5. Cards are still running stock clocks btw.

I've done some research and I have a few theories.

1) My cards are need a bump in voltage at their pcie. I have posted this issue on the EVGA forums and I'm waiting for a reply as I'm unsure where to increase the voltage for a Z77 (let alone, an lga1155 board).

2) Driver instability. I've done this one extensively so I leaning on dropping this as a culprit. Though, sometimes the cards only load to 70-80% and after driver reinstall, they load 98-99%.

3) The 3rd card is defective. This card was bought off ebay and apparently its 6 months old. I never had a bsod with the first two cards which are a year old. I'm going to pull the card later today and test the two first cards in Eyefinity.


Any other help or theories are welcome . I'm to the point I'm ready to sell them and go back to the green team. Thanks

I did loaded the card only

I'm waiting on the EVGA forums to see where I can increase voltage.

Actually, 12.6 was decent, though I'm running 12.1 now.

Well, did some more testing. Tested two cards in different combinations and all seem to work fine. Played ~30 minutes of Crysis in Eyefinity and all cards looked good. In fact, temps were a lo better. I'm suspecting now my mb is not getting enough juice to the cards.


Evga says you have to have the bottom 6-pin auxiliary power cable in order for pcie slots #2-#5 to work. There's two 6-pins. I'm going to try to plug in the second one and run tri-fire again.

No dice with the additional auxiliary 6--pin. Crashed after about 10 minutes . Going to test the other slots to see if maybe the bottom one is having issues. When I tested two cards, it was using pcie #1 and #3. Going to see if #3 and #5 will work in 2-way crossfire.

Some more testing:

Trifire using:

pcie slot#2
pcie slot#4
pcie slot#5
and the same thing. Crashed and Bsod after 10 minutes.


Round 2 trifire:

pcie slot#1
pcie slot#2
pcie slot#4

This was interesting. The game starts to tear a bit and then it freezes immediately. But, I can pause it and with a little patience I can get to the menu of the game and quit. No bsod.....


Some suggested 12.7 and 12.7 caps. going to give that a shot. I'm having doubts on my mb

I have the cpu @ 4.5 with 1.25v and it passed 30 minutes of prime. I upped it to 1.35v, still passed prime. Seems odd that I would need more volts on the cpu to run trifire??? Didn't have anything like this with the quad 480s on an x79 setup. Anyways, I tried 12.7 as some one suggested and now eyefinity doesn't work , on top of that, the installer is not working to uninstall (neither is the windows add/remove) the drivers. I tried installing 12.1, 12.3, 12.4 and the ccc doesn't load any more . Its kinda hard to imagine why i have so many issues with Amd.

Well, I talked to my good buddy and he'll definitely commit to picking one up. I'm going to start looking for an Nvidia setup

I totally forgot about single screen performance . Well, no issues running tri-fire. Fraps says I'm doing +100 fps and the cards are loading ~50-60% which is typical for 1080. 3dmark11 has the three cards loading 99% so I'm sure driver 12.3 is stable again. Sigh . I have a few offers coming in for the remaining cards.


Thanks for the help appleg33k85 and especially Tsm106. I'm still on the look out for two 670s. Three 580s would be nice but their prices are plateauing . I'm also contemplating returning this mb and getting something else
