Intel 3570K Core temp difference!

Hi,
I've got my 3570K set up and I love it! However my core temps have a difference of about 3-8C . Is this normal?

Here's a screen shot when I'm watching a HD video and browsing the net. Capture.PNG 114k .PNG file

You have different loads on each core resulting in different temperatures. This is normal, mine does the same. Do you get large temperature differences when all cores are under full load?

I've noticed this also with the Ivy's I've owned or help build, probably a total of 5. All of them (3770 or 3770K) had idle core temp differences of as much as 12c. I'm an experienced builder and know how to properly apply tim and seat coolers by the way.
Having used Intel CPU's since i7 920's, I always had and expected idle core temp differences to be no more than 3c. Personally I don't think an Ivy chip with 10c to 12c idle or load core temp differences is normal at all. I think the problem can be traced to Intel's use of inferior tim instead of solder for the IHS and the tri-gate transistors are unpredictable performers and need some Intel tweaking.
I don't think it means there isn't good Ivy chips out there, with stable, closely matched core temps, I've actually seen a 3770K with 29 30 28 32 before, they are just a helluva lot harder to find.

My 3570k has the same issue. Right now i'm idling at 36-28-32-27 and typically core 2 and 4 are 5-10* lower than Cores 1 and 3. However, these differences even out on load when it actually matters so I'd say that as long as your cores are with 3* of each other on load you shouldn't worry about it.

Mine's the other way round. My core 0 and 3 are the coolest, Is this really an issue? On load my core 0 remains 7C cooler than all others.

I really wouldn't worry about it. You could always try remounting with new TIM but I think the temp sensors in the 3570k's are just a little screwy. I just go with my hottest core as a guide for OCing to be on the safe side thumb.gif

Yeah I guess you're right. Even I've started taking the hottest core as an estimate.

I have a heat pipe type heatsink where the pipes are directly on the IHS with a small amount of aluminum between the pipes. At 4.3Ghz 1.232 vCore temps are:

Min Max
0: 27 69
1: 29 78
2: 21 72
3: 21 68

These are after P95 and core 1 is hotter all the time. Is it possible that core 1 has aluminum on top of it? My pipes run vertical like the die. I've read reviews where more aluminum between the pipes hurts overall cooling. Mine is very thin between the pipes. The installation is 36 hours old so the TIM may not be set up and settled good. I did apply it properly. There is also always a pattern with cores 1 & 2 being the hottest under load but 2 & 3 are always much cooler at idle. Core 1 is the one I'd like to see at 70c inline with the others. It is my wild one, always hotter.

Way back in the day I took the IHS off of a AMD K62-350 and put the sink right on the die, didn't help. I was one of two of us and we had the same results and felt kinda foolish. And the next thing I saw was Athlon XP's with naked cores. Of course the K62 didn't have TIM under the plate. I might just delid this one. In my opinion that is a major design flaw...I'm off to study core position and see how tuff they say the glue holding the IHS is. The K62 was a pain, tuff stuff. Thermal glue.

It is absolutely fine to see them at different temps. If they were 20+ degrees diff..you can start worrying. That might just be your sensor tool being shoddy at that point.

My second core is a lot different than my other cores as you can see, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sounds like everyone else deals with the same thing.
