Is an upgrade from a Quad-core Phenom II to a I5 3570K worth-while? - Page 2

General123, it all depends on what kind of FPS he was getting before to be honest. If it was an extra 10 fps when he was getting, say, 20, then that's a massive improvement. But if it was an extra 10 when he was getting like 120, it isn't really saying much.

I say that it's worth it solely because of this.

What more powerful CPU's really help in is to avoid those dreaded FPS dips and your what your minimum FPS turn out in games. You might not see a straight away increase in overal FPS, but your minimum will not dip so much.

Thread Starter
Interesting, thanks for the contribution guys The haswells sound quite interesting I'll see how it goes in the coming weeks or months, the 3570K is very tempting, a 10fps increment would be great, and I also do a bit of rendering when I upload my videos to you tube and they can take really long with my CPU.

Thanks again.

i went from a phenom 2 940 to an i7 2600k, the jump is 100% worth it even if your just gaming especially those that are CPU limit which for me ended up being most of them that i played.

if it was me id just do the upgrade no hesitation the jump is huge even if its just for gaming.

however if you can find the i5 2500k or the ivy equivalent then id get that instead if its JUST for gaming as HT sometimes causes some stuttering in games.

I have to agree with most in this thread.. I went from a P1 9850 to a p2 1090t to a p2 1100t to a i7 2600k.. the biggest improvement I felt and saw was from 1100t to 2600k... 10fps in most games? My skyrim FPS on identical hardware except the mb and cpu went from 35 to 70 fps... BF3 I got a 20fps jump on ultra... Its a huge jump.

Not worth it IMO. You would get more gaming performance from upgrading the GPU depending on the games you play. Most are still GPU limited though.

I would however look at overclocking your current CPU to 4GHz. If you dont have an aftermarket Cooler then look at something like the HCM yper 212 Evo.
