Using a Hper 212 Evo with an aftermarket Controller

Thread Starter

Hi. I'm currently planning out a build for college next year. And yes, I know that's a long way off and that stuff will change. This is a straight tech question though. Before going any further, I'd suggest reading my thread for it here.

I am planning on getting the NZXT Sentry-2 controller to go the Corsair 500r, since I want individual control of all my fans, and a quick way to monitor temps. Just to make your lives easier, the 500r has two 120mm intake on the front, one 200mm intake on the side, and another 120mm on the back for exhaust. I was planning on plugging all of those, as well as the fan from my cooler, into the controller. This way I could control it without having to use software. However, the cooler I wanna get (Hyper 212 EVO) has a 4 pin header, and the Sentry-2 only accepts Molex and 3-pin (i.e. the majority of case fans). What I wanted to know is it is possible, via some sort of PWM to 3 pin or PWM to Molex, to make this setup work. If so, a link to said adapter would be awesome.

Thanks!!

Yes that is fine. You will have to disable the cpu fan in the bois or it will beep and warn you. If you like you have de pin the green (rpm) wire and put another 3pin on that then you can put that in your cpu header so that you can read the rmp on your machine.

Otherwise you can just plug the hypers fan directly into the controller and it will act just as any 3pin fan would. I should fit right in and the blue (control) cable will not be connected.

Wait, so I can do it without an adapter, and still be able to control it? I thought that since the fan was PWM controlled, as opposed to voltage, it would have to require some form of adapter.

Also, I'm confused about this bit:

What exactly do you mean here. I'm assuming you are refering to the sense connecter. But what did you mean by "put another 3pin on that".

Also, I realized I used the incorrect term, in OP. The fan has a 4 pin power connecter, not header. Header is on mobo.

no it can still be controlled though voltage.

If you imagine its setup like that... the bois/fan controller software would pickup the rmps, but I think the nzxt fan control has an rpm read out right?

It has a speed readout in percentage.

I'm still a bit confused, that picture has a 4 pin, but it's Molex, unless I'm mistaken. This is a photo of the fan, with the power connector shown:

400

If I'm not mistaken, that's a PWM. Which is a 4 pin, but not a molex. So, still confused...

... And I just realized that this thing comes with fan attachments so that standard 120 mm case fans can fit on the heatsink. I may just buy a standard case fan, toss the stock CM one that comes with the cooler, fit the new fan, and hook it up to the controller normally.
