UPS Always on battery?

Thread Starter
I just got a UPS for my PC since the power goes out where I live very frequently...

I purchased this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00429N19W/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

I plugged it in just now and it works, but it seems to always be on battery most of the time... Like for a minute it will be running like a normal power strip and then the BATT. icon appears and it starts using battery... I was just curious what I was doing wrong here...? It simply says in the directions to plug it in and it is good to go, but it is still using its battery and I don't know how to make it stop...

Thanks

I don't know much about UPS (sorry) but I always thought thats what they did...run off the battery providing cleaner power to the machines and it was just constantly charging.

Interested in hear more though from people that actually know.

Does this mean that it's checking the battery or perhaps making sure that it's always fully charged?

I have no idea I ask because I didn't think anything of it at first when I saw the BATT. icon, but then around 45 minutes later my computer just shut off and the UPS itself was off and when I turned it back on it said 0% battery so clearly something wasn't going as it was supposed to...

Just curious what was up...

Did you charge the battery for 8 hours?  Either way, this part of the manual makes it sound like what you're seeing is normal if the battery needs charging (I think that it's trying to charge the battery).

Quote:
Your new UPS may be used immediately upon receipt. However, after receiving a new UPS, to ensure the
battery’s maximum charge capacity, it is recommended that you charge the battery for at least 8 hours.
Your UPS is equipped with an auto-charge feature. When the UPS is plugged into an AC outlet, the
battery will automatically charge when it’s turned on or turned off.

How long does the "BATT." indicator light up for?  Is it also predictable (like say once every 60 seconds or something)?

More like every 30 seconds or so... It would be running like normal and then I would hear a click and a fan would kick in and the battery indicator would pop up...

Does it beep when it is using the battery? I have the UPS one below that, and whenever it runs on battery power, it beeps every few seconds. But mine always appears to be running on wall power and the battery only kicks in when power from the wall is no more.
