Apogee HD tubing help!

In about a week i'll be ordering a 680 and water cooling for cpu and gpu, the Apogee HD has some confusing fitting specifications, what size tubing will i need? Currently i have everything configured for 3/8" id and 1/2" od with 3/8" id and 1/2" od compression fittings. Would push pull make some difference? I also need fans for this.

Swiftech MCP655

Xspc crossflow 360 rad w/ 3/8" id 1/2" od compression fittings

All 4 ports on the HD are G1/4" thread. It is a bit confusing when they are talking about fitting compatibility. If you look at the white block/black fittings it is a bit easier to see. Where the barbs sit are the primary outlet and inlet. The other 2 ports are secondary outlets.

Here is the way I understand it but you can write Swiftech if you wish.

If you put big 3/4" OD fittings/tubing on the primaries, then you can only get 3/8" OD fittings/tubing on the secondaries.

If you put less big 5/8" OD fittings/tubing on the primaries, then you can get 1/2" OD fittings/tubing on the secondaries.

You should be fine with only 1/2" tubing. Good luck.

So do i need to buy compression fittings that go onto it? Or does it have fittings that will work with the tubing? I'm still a bit confused, can i not put tubing on all 4 ports?

It comes with two sets of barbs, I know one set is 1/2x3/4 and I BELIEVE that the other is 3/8x1/2.

HOWEVER, those specs are if you are mounting the fittings directly to the block; if you get some 30/45/60/90deg rotary adapters, you can fit any size fittings you want. I tested this with mine, and with 4x Bitspower 45deg Rotary Adapters (well, two are 45deg dual rotary compression fittings 1/2x3/4), I was easily able to use the 1/2x3/4 compression fittings on all four ports because they are mounted up and angled away.

If you plan to use all four ports, which would be for a Parallel Flow loop, then yes.

However I would recommend the following, as they are adapters so you can reuse them should you decide to change tubing size and only have to buy new comps without having to buy new angled fittings ($25-40 vs $100-$200 for a change in tubing size)...

How would i go about using all 4 ports on the apogee? And for those fittings don't i need to buy an ends for them?

Edit: Changed the rads to Black ice x flows

I'm putting a shelf covering the psu area all the way across so the bottom rad and pump will be sitting on that.

You don't NEED to use all four ports, it's designed so that if you are cooling, say, the motherboard VRMs and some GPUs, you can split the flow between them so that the GPU's don't suffer the pressure loss induced by the highly restrictive chipset blocks.

As for the adapters, yes you would still have to buy the compression fittings to attach to the end, but when you add up the cost (I recommend XSPC Compression Fittings for the ridiculously awesome price of $4 ea, their low profile, and the very strong holding/clamping force), as well as the likelihood that you will change your loop a number of times or even keep it through various builds, the ability to keep the expensive angles while only replacing the compression fittings will save you a lot of money. Also they can be stacked, so you can take 2 45deg Rotary Adapters to make one 90deg Dual Rotary Adapter, making them a modular way to approach fittings selection and placement.

Well i will be doing a cpu and a gpu and possibly another gpu later. Swiftech confirmed that the block uses standard g 1/4 fittings. And if i were to do all 4 ports how would i configure that, i may do all for but if its too much i won't.

For 1 gpu you just need to use 1 inlet and 1 outlet, the ones that are populated by default.
