Crazy water cooling idea

Thread Starter
The basic idea is to have cold water flowing in constantly to keep the CPU and GPU at very cold temps when the hardware is being stressed at will. as well as having a drain so that there is not an excess in pressure. The only problem is that to do this setup pictured is that you would need a water filter of some sort.

But another pro is that you wouldnt need multiple rads, and lots of fans because when your not loading the cpu and gpu the single rad should hold the temps at reasonable levels.

Another guy had a similar concept just simplified... The design he implemented was essentially using a 5 gallon bucket as a reservoir. (depending on the watts that was being absorbed and the ambient water surface removing the heat) There's a rate at which the water mass warms up. Under certain load conditions it could remain there indefinitely, however I can't find the article anymore. He also just for kicks, experimented with putting bags of ice within the bucket. However I'm sure he ran into condensation within his line if he kept it up for prolonged periods of time. Another alternative to your drawing is the concept of geothermal cooling.. however much more expensive to implement but still interesting to read about none the less.

Lastly, check out "bong" water cooling... its super crunchy.

have fun.

The point of the radiator is to not waste water when im not using the machine or just lightly browsing the web... Then lets say i decide to kick it up a notch and start running like 5 virtual machines, and a movie convert and a bunch of other crap or gaming... I could turn on the water every few minutes and i would be putting in fresh cold water getting colder temps.

It would be quieter than running 6-10 fans between multiple radiators and pumps.

+1 to it in winter im in NE Ohio it can get pretty cold out here so my water lines would possibly drop cpu temps to about 50-60 f

You could do that I would say get a flow rate meter so you could manage your flow rate........if you have a well......be sure you have a pressure tank w/ res or you will burn up your well pump.

In theory you could do this without a pump just use the incoming pressure from the source.
Couldn't you just have a heatexchange for the cold water and the warm water? This way the Tap water and the distilled would stay separate yet you'd still be cooling the fluids.

Thats a good idea. Although this is just an idea that will most likely be never implemented. It's a waste of water.

Now if I owned a big office building and the water cooling system could take the pressure. I could implement it without wasting water. Perhaps I should pass the idea along to a business.
