I would probably want a closed-back for better sound isolation. But again I have never tried a good open back. Im not sure I'm willing to compromise the deep lows of a closed-back though. So 80% sure for closed.
What are the advantages of a higher impedance? I know they need more power to run, but I've read a lower impedance high quality headset can sound just as good.

Both, high and low impedance headphones have pro's and con's..it comes to a personal choice.
read this..im sure you will understand better.

The ultrasone Pro 550 is a good closed headphone for gaming, low impedance being only at 64 ohms.

I'm fairly new the Audiophile game, but for gaming, open headphones tend to give a better soundstage (positioning of enemies/gunfire/footsteps in terms of FPS). I've got both AD700 and DT880 250ohms.

AD700 are lighter, but also look ugly... so thats a downside if you go to LAN parties. The DT880 are comfy slightly heavier than the AD700, not by much imo... but enough to notice, but they look great, comfy and have a bit more bass. I love my DT880, but if you asked me why, I couldn't tell you exactly.

Just my 2 cents.
