yes, a good brand psu is very important for a rig. cause it's the one that's giving power to ur rig, a crappy psu could break or burn something in your computer. a good brand of psu's are Corsair, Seasonic, Coolermaster, Antec, and Silverstone. the minimium requirement for gaming is depend of what you going to put in your rig smile.gif.

no brands do not matter one single bit brands are just the people who put their name on the box what really matter is who is the manufacturer, the company who made the actual unit

as with most units on the market today brand does not mean manufacturer, although there are exceptions like seasonic, enermax and a few others

because the retail power supply market is largely unregulated aside from a brands morals, you get bands who put their names on trash and try to pass it off the customer as being good when it is not and then you get the surprises where a perceived bad brand turns around and get it right with a good unit

what we can take from this is do your research as to who is the actual manufacturer of the psu and dont judge any psu based on brand and marketing

Yes, it is probably the most important part of your whole rig.

Pretty much this, brand is mostly irrelevant in the PSU market, you have to go on a unit-by-unit basis.

Not really, obsidian explained very well why.... not everything that's branded Antec or Corsair is worthwhile, the same way not everything branded Xigmatek or Vantec (random examples) is trashy or poor.
As broken_projector put it, you need to go on a unit-by-unit basis.

Sometimes you even get borderline results. For instance, the Corsair CX V2 series is pretty cheap and delivers decent quality power - but it is also known for developing irritating coil whine (a noise). Yet Corsair is one of the highest-regarded brands (see awesome's post above).
