Moving games to another harddrive

I remember seeing someone post on these forums a application that lets you move installed games from one harddrive to another, does anybody know what program this is?

If it's only the Steam folder you want to move it's quite easy!

Exit Steam (realy shut it down by right-clicking the Steam Icon)

Go to the Steam folder in you C drive.

Delete ALL files IN that folder EXCEPT: steamapps and Steam.exe

Now copy/paste the whole thing to your new drive.

Go into the folder and run Steam.exe

This will download all the needed files again and you can login again with Steam and all works fine!!!

(Some games might to be re-downloaded again and some games need to do something with the file system of trhat game to work again. This happens automaticly if you want to play the game)

For the rest I can tell: Install ALL your other games (again) on the D drive. When you format C and reinstalled windows, just run a game from D and it will install the reg-key again and it will work again.

I think you're right, pretty sure there is such an app, and was big thread on OCN about it, with the developer(s) talking about it in the thread ... forget what it's called though, and can't find it on the google redface.gif

When I've moved Steam in the past I've just copied the whole Steam folder to another drive, uninstalled Steam, then reinstalled, pointing it to install to the path I've copied the folder to ... IIRC that's always worked fine, but it's been a while since I did it.

steam mover will transfer any game or other software for that matter to another drive or back...works great
