Is it my power supply?

Thread Starter
Regarding my Sig Rig.

I started playing BF3 again and about 30-45 min in, my pc just shuts down.
I play on all Low settings.

Is my card drawing too much power?
What watt psu should I get?

UPDATE:

After applying new thermal paste my new temps were
idle: 45
load: 80

Thanks OC! smile.gifthumb.gifbiggrin.gif

Yeah, it does sounds like the card is drawing to much power,
Note: a friend had the same prob not long ago.

I'd get a 500+ quality PSU, from Antec/Corsair/Coolermaster or Thermaltake.

This should give you a idea = http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/psu_recommendations

Before buying a new power supply , I would get some temperature monitoring software and have it track temps for the cpu and graphics card.
Coretemp is good for cpu temps. MSI 's afterburner works well with the graphics card monitoring.

I'd agree with this, check that it isn't your GPU causing the problem.
If it's overheating, then you may just need to clean or remount the heatsink.

If it is fine, then the CX500 would be a good replacement PSU.

If it powered for 30+ minutes, it probably a heat issue, so check this out like cssorkinman mentioned. I do recommend getting a better quality PSU though which your Raidmax is not.
A solid 400w PSU is plenty for that system. Check out OCN's Recommend PSU list.

I think it may be my GPU causing the problem from overheating. In the past when I played BF2 temps would go waaay past normal.
I think BF3 is just pushing the card too hard compared to other games I play such as L4D2, LoL, WoW etc.

If it is the GPU, are there any coolers out there that aren't too expensive and can keep my card cool ?
Also is it hard installing a GPU cooler?

What temperatures are you getting under load?

You don't need to get a new cooler, take the shroud off of your heat sink and clean it and remove any dust, and also try remounting the heat sink on the GPU, replacing the thermal paste.

Just played BF3 again with MSI Afterburner logging.
Temps hit 115 just before my system shut down again.
My card Idles at 70 degrees.

Will cleaning out my card do enough? Or is it time to get a new card because I'm content with the gts 250's performance considering I mostly play LoL.

Wow, those are some crazy temps, is the fan even running on the card, or at least getting up to proper speed?
