ASUS VS239H-P

Hey guys,

Coming from 22" 1680x1050 regular TFT monitor. I've been wanting to jump in on the IPS/1080p craze and see what all the fuss is about.

Actually this is my current monitor:

I would like to know your opinions on this particular one that I have my eyes on:

If you know of a better monitor while not being that much more expensive unless justified please share.

If you are fine with that Acer the Asus should be a big improvement, but be warned, all matte IPS panels use a very grainy matte coating...the ONLY reasonably priced IPS/PLS panel without a grainy matte coating is the Asus VG23AH, see my thread here.

If you plan on playing games the Dell U2312 has faster response times than the VS239H which has medium response times for an IPS panel=ghosting.

Dell also offers a much better return/exchange service; 23" IPS commonly have severe back-light bleeding, I recommend buying one from a place with a hassle free return/exchange policy vs NewEgg.

That German review in Prad.de for the VS239H doesn't apply to the VS239H-P model. The "P" model has Trace Free overdrive circuitry and a much faster response time (5ms GTG). I downloaded the owner's manual for the VS229/VS239 series at ASUS.com to confirm. Its should be at least as fast as the Dell U2312M.

Thanks for the info guys!

I do love my Acer monitor which is now 3 years old and I couldn't be more happy with it. Basically anything I get though would or should be better regardless. So I decided to go with VS239H-P because the others mentioned were out of my budget, and it has all the criteria I'm looking for in a new monitor. 23-24", IPS, LED, and HDMI.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, although I do on occasion play BF3 and Civ5. That's about it. What I wanted this new monitor most for is the full HD res for movies/videos.

Again thanks. +rep

I'm considering this monitor as well. Are you happy with it? I'm mostly concerned about color accuracy and black levels looking ok without too much bleed.

I'm very happy with it. It's the best monitor I've ever owned. The colors are super vibrant and the picture is really clear to me. As far as color accuracy and black levels, I'm not really sure because I'm not very technical with monitor colors and what not. But whatever I'm seeing on screen is excellent quality.

How is the color accuracy? If your not techincal with montiors the best quesiton for me to ask would be when you first got it did it look all washed out? I don't know what's in my sig but I have the Asus VS247H-P and while input lag etc.. is great the color accuracy is horrendous. Even using a Spyder4 it doesn't look right and is washed out not nearly as bad as when I first got it. My 5 year old Samsung Syncmaster has much better color, but it was old and only 19". I never had the intention of photographic quality, more for gaming but it's so saturated and off kilter, I seriously can not fathom why Asus has no drivers or will even give a proper ICC profile. However, I speculate your monitor has good color since the ad's i have seen regarding it boost the fact and another important feature it boasts about is the overscan options rather than just full/off, when I first got mine the screen needed to be re-sized.
