Hey Truckerguy, I'm running an ASUS M5A97 Evo. I think you may have misread the system description. The only HP part left on my rig is the Seagate hard drive that came with it.

I face more or less the same issues, ran mine 965 on 4ghz around 2 years, now this third year i can run it stable on the same specs, only on stock. Funny. Also it seems pretty slow for no reason, i have reinstalled windows a couple of times. I run the asus crosshair iii by the way.

Yes, it is kind of strange. The fact is last night I was flying FSX and the processor did such a great job compared to the night before, (that happens a lot lately; hot & cold). I always turned off all my background programs when I "fly" to reduce the work the CPU has to do.

The 965 did a great job for me for quite a while and if it wasn't for the fact that I ran it very hot when I first started learning how to overclock I think it would still be fine today. But even so, it just can't do the kind of job I need it to do when flying FSX. I run with a lot of add-ons, high resolution programs. In addition, I fly high resolution planes low to the ground. This will suck down the frame rates like they're going out of style if the processor is not up for the job.

The Ivy Bridge seems to be a good chipset but I can't afford those new processors yet. So I'm going with the i7 2600K, clocking it to 4.8 GHz or higher, and that'll be that. My motherboard, ASUS M5A97 EVO is only a few months old and I'll put it up for sale, (it's like new and I never got it hot).
Thanks again, Rich

No problem truckerguy:

5 Cooler Master Excalibur's 120 mm PWM case fans

1 200 mm NZXT performance case fan

1 Corsair H100 CPU cooling system (With 4 120mm CM Excals in push/pull config)

I haven't updated my system info because I'm about to do some other major changes. I'll update it all when I'm done.thumb.gif
