Hey guys. I am trying to plan a home server, but I am not going to be building it now. Also, I never built a computer before the price spike, so I don't know how the prices were...

As I'm sure everyone knows by now, hard drive prices are extremely inflated.

For example, the 1tb WD Green is currently $100 on newegg, and the 2tb is $120.

So, I am trying to design this file server around a price point. So, what were the prices of those drives before the price spike?

No idea, but to put it in a bit of perspective, I paid $55 on Newegg for my 1TB drive.. and it's "performance oriented." Around the same time WD Blacks were 70-75 IIRC.

Greens should be cheaper, right?

Okay. Because I want to have like 16 drives in a Raid 6 or something. And with the current prices, that is only a dream. If they fall down to like $70 for a 2tb black drive, I would be able to build that dream server!

I got all my 2TB 5200-5900RPM drives for $60-70 prior to the flood. 7200RPM drives usually cost $10-20 more for the same capacity.
