I have a handful of problems with my first build and have no idea how to fix them

I am very greateful if someone can help. I have no idea if it's just me being stupid or if there's something actually wrong

 

1. My CPU fan cooler (nzxt havik 140) will not cool my llano a8-3870k apu correctly if both fans on each sides are connected via an Y-cable to the cpu fan header

 

2. The usb 3.0 ports are not working anymore since the last time I loaded windows onto  the harddrive (the drivers are up to date)

 

3. Windows is generally not fluid at all, even though i'm running a 6670. Also, all games will randomly give me a screen with a bunch of lines on it and I have to restart. I know it's the driver's fault because if I look atr the arrors it's always the "Fusion Utility"

 

4. One ram dimm doesn't work anymore after getting used a few days long without problem. (I tested all of them and when that dimm was installed i got bsods in games the whole time.)

 

5. I by accident unplugged an ssd and since then it doesn't work correctly (weird). All firmwares on all 3 ssds are up to date.

asus f1a75

a8-3870k APU

12gb Patriot AMD branded memory 1333mhz (of which only 8gb works)

MSI Radeon 6670 2gb

LC-Power 560w PSU

3x ssds, 1x hdd, 2x optical drives all in raid mode

1: both fans wont spin?

2: enabled in bios?

3: uninstall fusion utility.

4&5: are you plugging/unplugging things while the computer is on?

1. They will only spin extremely slow

2. yes

3. already did that, didn't work

4. no

5. it happened by accident because the case was open

about the fans, it may have the pwm wire to both fans, which is wrong, or it may have an inline resistor?

and if the memory can be tested in another system, this may help to isolate issues down to the board.

The y cable doesn't have a PWM connector if that's what you're asking

 

And no I don't have any other system on what I can test it on except maybe on this old VIA c7-d board. The problem is I don't have a 2. PSU

Do you have enough money to buy a different PSU in order to see if the problem is the PSU?  As I imagine you may already be aware, the 560W LC-Power you have is a pretty low-quality unit.

 

If you do get a temporary PSU just to test it, then it doesn't have to be anything more than a quality unit that has a capacity of around 400W.  For example, these would be excellent choices:

 

  • 380W Antec Earthwatts Green (EA-380D)
  • 400W Antec NEO ECO
  • 380W SeaSonic S12II
  • 400W PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK III
  • 400W Antec High Current Gamer
  • 450W Enermax NAXIN
  • Corsair CX430 V2
  • 430W SeaSonic S12II
  • 450W XFX Pro "Core Edition"

 

 

I know it seems a little far-fetched to be the PSU, but I've seen PSUs like this cause similar problems for other people here on OCN, so I just have a feeling that the same thing may be happening here.

I thought Lc-power was a good company.. They're quite known in the german speaking regions. I paid 80 bucks for it and didn't it would be of bad quality. I might go and talk to the sales person who sold it to me (i have to bring that silly ram anyway back)

Does it look like this?


If so you need to ditch it,as that has more power to the 5v rail than the 12v rail.Old tech for old PC's as I understand it. I have the Havik 140,have had zero issues with the fans on 1 cable.

This one has a +12V capacity of only 282W which makes it a modern-day 300-350W power supply at best.  Not only that, but the quality of the power that it delivers is dirty and unstable.
