Upgrading my GPU...Will a R7850 work for me? - Page 2

I know this thread died and i have been double posting, however, I have decided Im going to wait another month and get a 7950 as I see the added 3GB being a bonus as stated above. And I would rather play eyefinity now then have to wait for crossfire. Then i plan on maybe going crossfire by christmas.

I used the guide on the site to OC my 920 to 3.8. No issues with Prime after 24 hours and max temps never went over 67C. I also ordered another CPU fan for my TRUE (I lied above rolleyes.gif) for push/pull and I got two more case fans (Antec 1200 side panel and etra HDD cage fan. So I dont see OC'ing a 7950 as an issue.

*EDIT* How does everyone feel about the MSI R7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5/OC?

Since Im not to up on the latest, will the new Nvidia card coming out this month push down the 7950 prices a little?

If you are getting a HD 7950 you could consider this card. Sapphire HD 7950 950 Mhz edition. faster out of the box clocks at 950 Mhz compared to MSI HD 7950 at 880 Mhz.. the sapphire dual x cooler is better than msi twin frozr. uses a HD 7970 PCB. and has a nice DUAL BIOS feature for aggressive overclocking.

Any reason to have the 660 ti sway my decision? I know for surround i would require SLI which is a downside. And Im thinking the extra GB of Memory with the 7950 is going to help.

The 660Ti is between the 6870 and 7950. The 7950 would be a better choice in the long run as it can overclock to match a 670 overclocked and the 3GB will help a lot when you're in Eyefinity.

Unfortunately a lot of the TF3 7950s are hit or miss. I think there were 2 or 3 people who got bad ones in the 7950/7970 owners thread, but lots of other people had great luck with it. Some could even get to to run at 7970 speeds with 2K shaders.

What is TF3. Twin Frozer 3?

Also, it seems like sapphire is coming out with the Vapor X. Do you think this may be better than the current OC sapphire that i was planning on buying? Is it a better cooler that would allow me to OC higher? Or is the OC edition a better pic since it is already running fater out of the box?

Also is this new boost firmware for all 7950's or just refrence cards. Im somewhat confused.
