[Amazon US] OCZ Vertex 4 128GB - $100, 256GB - $190 FS/Prime eligible [Expired] - Page 3

Dam the 256gb was $250 when i got it 2 months ago

iirc, it comes with
  1. An "my ssd is faster than your hdd" sticker
  2. A 2.5" to 3.5" adapter bracket
  3. The ___GB SSD you bought
'
in a tiny box.

To update bios: Do it right when u get it.
Plug in and boot to old OS on your other drive. Update with the OCZ tool box, update to RCv1.5 (1.4.12 or something like that) on their website
Install OS and enjoy.
Update may or may not be destructive.

As far as reliability goes, it's the best I've seen to date compared to the highly popular sandforce 2281's.

Interesting. Mine was already flashed with the 1.5 firmware when I received it today.
Installation was a breeze and everything is very snappy. 7.1 on WEI, which I did not expect since I'm not even using a SATA III board.
Really happy so far, though. Any tweaks or optimizations, or programs I should run to help maintain and keep the SSD running at full speed?

I'm not sure but i heard something about Intel RST, disable the scheduled defrag, and keep it above 40% free space blah blah..
I forgot all the other ones, but just dont use it for I/O heavy things like a fileserve drive.

I got 7.9 on WEI with RC v1.5 after re-flashing it from RC v1.4, an improvement of .2 whatever that means...

as for R/W rates, the writes at small file sizes and incompressible writes went down a tad, while read rates improved significantly.

uhh.. yea. 190 for a vertex 4 256GB is a GOOD DEAL, IMO, if you have the dough.

Hmmm. Mines going to be a little less than 40% free space. Will that drastically change performance? I don't have much of a choice.

so....
I don't think the typical end user will find a noticeable loss of performance.

lol, to be quite honest, i am tempted to get one to install simply to use as a game drive lol, put all my steam games on there, leave my os on my other ssd, does that seem like a good idea?

Depends on what games you play. Most you won't see any noticeable improvement on load times, whereas games like MMO's and Civ V you should see an appreciable difference with stuff like texture pop-ins and caching.
