I'm in the same boat, with a kid (on the way) and not wanting to have my investment all messed up, even tho in the end its just materialistic stuff.

ideas I came up with..

1. wireless hdmi router. Monoprice is the only place I found one that didn't have too bad of reviews and didn't cost an arm and leg.

put your htpc in the closet it might risk it from getting damaged.

I haven't tested this product out yet, since it was sold out for a while.

Last is maybe getting a case that has a lock on it.
Im currently upgrading my case (nmediapc 5000b) to a silverstone gd07.

anybody gone the wireless HDMI route??
