Yes, you just need a stereo mini-jack to 2 RCA cable.

Hey, I don't mean to like steal the thread or anything (plus it looks like it's been a few months since this was active) but I have a similar question (mostly because I didn't fully understand what OP was asking) but here goes, and please tell me to go away if I am stealing haha, So I have a Sony 100W powered sub (that is with an amp built in) and I'd like to hook it up to my PC. The Sub also supports 5 small speakers (12 ohm if I remember correctly) and I'd like to use it a bit since I have a small room for gaming and the sound I can get is good enough, however, my PC doesn't have a sound card and so I am unsure on how to connect it.

Should I buy a soundcard around 70 bucks, or is there an adapter I can use since the Sub is amplified? My PC has 5 channels on 3.5mm jacks and a sub on a 3.5mm jack, as well as a digital optical out, but my sub only supports coaxial digital. Thanks a ton guys

If this is your tuner/amp

http://www.hifidatabase.com/Detailed/Denon_DRA-435R_3105.php

For surround and bass management i would really suggest either

a. Fish out a cheap older but still fine coax/optical AVR on Craiglist if funds are tight

b. For $200 have a look at HDMI AVRs like Denon AVR1612/Pioneer VSX 522-K and pass HDMI off your PC

Either of the above would have sub out/LFE

Hey I was browsing and I looked at your "My El Cheapo.." page, that's a sweet setup! Looking through it I realized that there might be another way to get my system going, Here's my ideas, I was hoping you could just comment and correct me if I'm wrong =) Thanks in advance, even if you don't want to provide feedback or something.

First of all, I would like to keep the power consumption of the system to a minimum, which is why I have tried to avoid a receiver at all costs. I'm also pretty much broke so keeping things as cheap as possible would be great. This is the stuff I have right now: Sony SA-W2500 Sub, 5 Sony bookshelf speakers (no model number as I can't access them right now) a working PC and quite a bit of determination biggrin.gif
Like what you did for your system, could I buy a mini amp, something like this and wire some bookshelf speakers speakers to it and then run a 3.5mm to rca to the back of my sub for bass? My mobo will support 7.1 channel surround, so I could go into the configuration for that and simply enable the sub and center jacks to get some sound right?

Assuming that works, could I simply buy multiple mini amps and use all of the bookshelf speakers I have to get 5.1 or 7.1 sound direct out of my motherboard? I don't think the surround is necessary, it'd certainly be nice, however. I'm making the switch from xbox to PC and I will need some decent sound out of my PC for gaming and I'm trying to decide between speakers or a headset. I have a preference for speakers because I enjoy my bass and headphones just don't give me enough =) So yeah, what do you think? Thanks again thumb.gif

If you want to stick to 2.0/2.1 then ya T-amps could be the cool running, cheap and compact solution but for surround never ever run multiple 2 channel amps - just pass digital out to a AVR with discrete multi channels and do it right so it depends on which solution u looking for i guess wink.gif DTS-HS/Dolby True HD via HDMI is easy and the compatible AVRs are not as expensive as u think tongue.gif
