WAY too many socket changes from AMD. Sticking with S939 for now.

Thats rediculous! The AM2 socket isnt even that old yet! Do you guys think we will see anymore powerhouse processors in the current flavors of socket types? Preferably the 939/940/AM2 ???

am2 was just made to get things by until am3 is out.

me personally i'm sticking w/ my opty s939 until am3's are released. i've not heard many positive things about the am2 besides the ddr2 support.....

I think Kentsfield is the much better option. Its a single socket quad core instead of two dual core CPUs, it has half the total power consumption of 4x4 and it uses the same LGA 775 socket that Intel has been using for a while now. And most 965/975 boards support Kentsfield.

AMD is good but seems they are really falling behind especially with their socket... not everyone wanna buy a new mobo everytime they wanna upgrade the cpu. I'm sticking with my opty 165 for a while......too many socket changes from amd..

if amd keeps changing socket, i may jump to Intel later on when i do upgrade

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Nicely put. I plan on picking up one of the mainstream kentsfields, probably going to pick up the e6400-flavor core2quad in January, unless it's like $700...thats not worth it IMO. Anyone have any information on the pricing of the mainstream non-qx6700 quadcores? I can't seem to find ANYTHING.

From what I've heard, they're only planning Kentsfields based on the Conroe flavor (E6600, E6700) and not based on the Allandale. Thus, there will be an Q6600, but no lower ones. They want to keep selling them Core 2 Duos, so they don't go lower with the Quad cores. This way, Intel will have a nice line-up with the Q6600 filling the gap between the E6700 and the QX6700/X6800. The extention will be on the low-end, where in early 2007 single core CPUs based on ther Core technology will appear.

Then, in the second half of 2007 (Q3 maybe), Yorkfield and Wolfdale are scheduled to appear. both 45nm, the Yorky being the Quad core and Wolfy the dual core versions.
