No such implication was made anywhere.

I don't like Valves games, platform, or business practices, so I won't buy them. This means I do without them, not that I steal them.

Many of those into free and open source software will often continue to support free and open source software, and will do without the proprietary stuff whenever possible, not pirate it.

What's indecisive about this? Ask for my money in exchange for your efforts and I'll probably share. Demand my money like you're entitled to it and you can piss off. Paying a lot for indie bundles or the like is a way to support diversity. Paying for big name stuff tends to support consolidation and stagnation, not to mention all sorts of practices generally contrary to the whole free and open thing.

Not that I'm particularly idealistic when it comes to my software choices, but I can certainly understand where such people are coming from.

I tend to support the software that works the best for my needs and this usually means Windows-based(re: closed source models) software applications.

Though there are some really good IDEs out there that I've used such as Wing, based on my experience, open source applications just aren't as polished as the commercialized counterparts.

I personally wouldn't pay for the same game on Linux as I would Windows.

I find that alittle odd cause everytime Humble Bundle is on, linux users seem to pay more, or am i wrong?

LIES! I love linux, using it right now actually, but just take a look at my steam library: http://steamcommunity.com/id/MrTolkinghorn/games?tab=all

Yeah, Linux users won't pay for games, that's why I've bought over 125 games.

Open source is fabulous, for example, recently somebody released a patch to my current music player Clementine which enabled a feature I really wanted (Boolean search logic in the playlist filter) An obscure feature, but someone with C++ knowledge (greater than my own) was able to hack one together and it works wonderfully. I've been using the custom version of Clementine including this patch ever since. This only possible through the source-code being openly available. That being said, I don't require everything I use to be free or open source. Advanced enough programs and especially games I definitely understand needing to be closed source and make a profit, that doesn't mean I want everything to be closed source, but make a good enough product with no other free alternatives (games) and I will pay money for it.

He even mentioned that he's interested to see how Valve will manage.
It's really sad to see people attacking Carmack. He's a brilliant guy that has done a lot (and is still doing a lot) to evolve video game graphics, but people are still willing to take something he said out of context, twist it a little and get all Linux fanboyish and attack him.

For all those who missed it.

Carmack hasn't done anything worthwhile for gaming since idTech 4.

He's become an irrelevant dinosaur that keeps screwing things up. And I don't really understand why, because he really is a smart guy.

Megatextures are a great idea in theory, but they never work out. Pretty much any idTech game that uses them runs like garbage and it doesn't enhance the game at all.

I like Carmack. I really do. I think he's a very intelligent guy, he certainly can do a lot more than I can with a computer. But at the same time he's got CliffyB syndrome, and he forgot what put him on the map.

Protip: It was me. It was you. Everyone who had a computer and played Quake, Doom, or even Commander Keen and friends. We put him where he is today. And when a new console runs around he evangelizes it, and talks about how great it is, when he has the best platform right in his damn face. Then the consoles get old and he starts pandering to us. CliffyB does the same thing, and it's why id sucks, Epic sucks, and their newer games suck.

Also id sold out to Bethesda. So they doubly suck.
