[MaxPC] Microsoft Looking to Tighten Up Windows 8 Activation Requirements

In particular Microsoft is looking to improve the way they deal with OEM editions of Windows, making it significantly harder for pirates and rogue OEM’s to circumvent paying their dues to Redmond. In the past several OEM’s used a single activation key, however going forward with Windows 8, they will be required to write a unique Windows product key into the BIOS of each new machine shipped.
Quote:
OEM’s will also be forced to obtain their product keys directly from Microsoft electronically, and each machine will come with a “Genuine Microsoft” sticker affixed to the outside of the case. In the past machines were only required to come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Not sure if you're allowed to say that.

But this would be interesting to see how people who get Win8 free would respond to this.

Bet you the scheme will be crippled within 2 weeks of Windows 8 going public in October.

I never pirate software, ever. because that would be so wrong! Its worse than stealing, piracy is like taking the mona lisa and having sex with it then hanging it back up on the wall again for people to see the mess you created. No wait, that would be real stealing and vandalism, so what is the cost of software piracy to the creator?

So does this mean that the average consumer will only be able to buy retail copies of Windows from now on? No OEM copies at half the price?
