DLNA Between OSX and Windows is killing me.

Hey guys, so I got given a Macbook the other day and have got networking down between Windows and OSX (fairly simple) but one thing that I am having trouble with is being able to listen to all my music on the Mac.

All my music is located on my rig and almost half of my collection is in WMA lossless (I use a Zune so it has to be WMA) and I cannot play this on my Mac, even using 'Flip4Mac' the player refuses to play any of my lossless files.
I have been trying to setup a DLNA server with transcoding to stream my music to my Mac but was wondering if there is any software that works as a client to the default Windows DLNA server as it does not show up in itunes.

I think it's clear what I am trying to do but not sure how to go about it, if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated!

That is not an option. I forgot to mention that, my collection has over 15,000 songs and I have not the effort, or space on my Macbook for that, especially to keep it updated. This would also require me to fix up the messed up meta tags that will occur since the Zune database has my music organised and not all the files will be tagged properly.

No you can sync MP3 files but all lossless files have to be WMA lossless, Zune software can't sync FLAC just like itunes can't.

Either install Subsonic on Windows to stream to your Mac, or install VLC on OS X to listen to the WMA's instead of whatever crappy OS X media player you're using.

Haven't tried subsonic going to give that a go and I do use VLC, It's one of the first things I install on any of my machines but on OSX it cannot play WMA files.

Weird, VLC should support it: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.php?cat=audio

I reckon Zune is attaching DRM to your media, in which case you possibly might not even get Subsonic to work. If it does not work, then you have no option but to re-rip all your content using a non-evil client. Sorry mate frown.gif

VLC is playing my WMA files on every windows machine I own and every DLNA server is able to stream to WMP on all of my windows machines so I am certain there is no DRM on the files, I rip using DBpoweramp and the Zune software simply adds the files to it's database, it does not edit the files. This is what I read on the vlc forum:

I know this won't really work as a regular desktop program, but you could try out XBMC. It should support wma just fine. Only downside is that its a media center program obviously.
