Will AMD Phenom II X4 945 bottleneck NVIDIA GTX 670/580?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying GTX 670 / GTX 580, but i read my CPU could bottleneck the GPUs.

I got 1920x1080 resolution, Scythe Katana 4 CPU Cooler, CPU @ 3.0GHz.

Thanks.

Maybe... is that a black edition? Crank up the multiplier a little. If not... what motherboard you using? 965's are under $100 if you have AM3, and you're all but guaranteed 4 ghz with little hassle and a drop in upgrade.

What's your current vid card? A GTX 670 might very well be overkill for a 3ghz CPU.

If you fill out your rig signature profile then we wouldn't have to ask these questions.

I have a 955 @ 4.2ghz and I am picking up a 660TI after they release next week (unless the reviews suck, then I'm going 670 I guess). But I am at the top of the cpu food chain for my motherboard, going to anything faster means a bit of work with new mobo/cpu/Windows reinstall (nooo!).

Im going to say yes.

It may be a physical bottleneck(i.e 100% CPU usage), but When I had a 1090T @ 4GHz and SLI 470s I actually saw a huge improvement when I went to an i5. AMD just doesnt have enough integer performance.

EDIT(at 1080p probably not)

Are you referring to me? So at 3GHz stock on 1080p it wouldnt bottleneck? Though, Im willing to overclock as far as i can.

if you can crank it up to at least 4.2 GHz, then i'd say go for the 670. if not, a 660 might work better and if it is cheaper . . . you might be able to upgrade the rest of your components.

I have an 6970 (AMD) and a x4 970 at 3.5 and sometimes at 3.8. It bottlenecks less at 3.8 than at 3.5 but u can still notice it. Since the 580 and 670 are both better cards I will have to say yes it will.

I read if i overclock my CPU to around 3.8-4Ghz range that it wont bottleneck the GTX 670. For GTX 580, around 3.5-3.6GHz should be enough.
I'd say why not go higher? Your motherboard VRMs are ok though?

This question appears to have come up a fair bit recently.

The answer is yes, but you will still get great performance out of your 670/580.
You may get frame rate dips under CPU intensive games and applications, whereas you would have a smoother experience with something from the other camp.
