Hello everyone
!
I currently have a 5770. The latest VLC media player (2.0.3) now supports "GPU accelerated video decoding". But when I enable it, every video runs very laggy and noisy ,no matter what codec you play (H.264/MPEG2/4). Also seeking becomes too unresponsive to watch.
Why is 5770 not able to play videos smoother and faster ? I am using ver12.6 video driver with a very clean and hassle free OS.
I also have installed K-Lite Media Codec pack to ensure maximum compatibility of all general video codecs with 64bit and 32bit version of Windows Media Player. I've also checked by enabling GPU decoding (DXVA/DXVA CopyBack) in K-Lite, but it failed to play video smoothly.
AMD claims HD 5770 has dedicated processor for video decoding which is UVD2 (Ultra Video Decoder 2) for MPEG4-AVC/H.264, etc. But I think this feature is not working flawlessly.
Has someone any idea why it is happening ?
Can 6770 do this better than 5770 ?, however 6770 also have UVD2 like 5770.
What if I flash my 5770 (XFX) to 6770 (XFX) ? Should I take this step to check if there is a difference or not ?
I know this may be weird why I am trying to put the video load on the GPU when my CPU is absolutely fine doing this job without any problem. The answer is I am just very curious to know if the CPU load could be lowered to idle or either at lower frequency when it is overclocked to 4.0GHz with cool n quite enabled to ensure lowest CPU power consumption. It also feels very efficient.
Thanks in Advance
