Helpful as always thumb.gif +rep

When I do get more money for a better sound card which would you recommend?

I was thinking between the Xonar Essence STX or the Xonar Phoebus?

I did a quick google search and some people are saying to get the stx because the phoebus doesn't have any good drivers right now.

The STX is a great internal card. I don't know much about the phoebus but it looks kind of gimmicky TBH.

You might also want to consider an external option when you get into that more expensive price range. The reasoning being that the farther you remove the sound equipment from your high current devices (PSU, GPU...), the less chance of EMI issues which become more and more important as you get higher quality audio systems.

Yea I have been doing some research on the STX and it seems like a solid card. I believe the phoebus is just the STX with a few more features but since it just came out the drivers are bad so a lot of people recommend the STX instead of it.

I never thought about that second point, I'll look into some usb ones as well

ugghhhhhhh They wont ship the ad700's to canada. I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and get them for $157 from amazon canada because I can't find another place to buy them from here.

Guess it will just delay my sound card purchase a little longer

...and the clip on mic is $20. what the hell. I can get another clip on mic for cheaper at ncix it just wont be the zalman one

I wouldn't pay those prices for that equipment.

This is why I don't recommend audio to non-Americans. Prices are so screwed up in other countries it's such a hassle.

Yea I haven't ordered the ad700's yet. still thinking about it. I could just get my sound card first and wait for them to go on sale on amazon.ca or see if ncix will sell them again because they used too but now they don't.

If I did get my sound card first (was thinking about getting an essence stx) I don't think it would even be worth it since I am using a steelseries siberia v2 so having a high end sound card like that probably wouldn't be worth it using it with the headset I own.

seems like everything is so overpriced here. all the quality headphones are about $50-$100 more on average in canada
