Yeah, go for the VE228. It's LED backlit and has a much better contrast ratio. The 2600k or 3570k is really all up to you. In my opinion, go for the 3570k. You have an Ivy Bridge motherboard, so it gives you even more features. The 2600k does support hyper-threading, though. Idk if you need that. If you do need hyper-threading, get the 2600k. However, the 3570k is a perfect fit for a gamer. It is easy to overclock, and it is up-to-date. No hurt with that. It really depends on what you're doing. I would get the 3570k, because it suites your needs.

Actually, it would be better to compare the 2600k and the 2500k. The 2500k is really identical to the 3570k, besides the fact that the 3570k is newer and doesn't need as much voltage. I have heard that the 3570k runs a bit more hot than the 2500k. This might just be a rumor though. If you don't care about having the most up-to-date system, I would get the 2500k. It really is just like the 3570k, but cheaper.

Whoever said it would last 7 years is an idiot. I can see 5 years. Idk why you would keep a system that long without upgrading it anyways lol

Thanks EvilSpashy,

Entry level machines last many people 5-10 year cycles these days, and that cycle time is apt to grow in the coming years as software focuses on optimising performance for less powerful portable tablets and such. If I had a top of the line CPU/GPU build today, you can bet money I would still be using it in 7-10 years provided no hardware failures killed the thing off in that time period.

I'm not sure how a 7 year expectation translates into "idiot," especially with top of the line hardware going into a build. If you say "5 years is fine" and "7 years makes you an idiot" then doesn't that make you 5/7ths of an idiot yourself?

Cheers,
Eric

One thing to add "future proofing" does not exist in computers really. The technology moves too quick.

Personally id go 3570k and 8gb ram. Games will not take advantage of hyper threading for a good few years. If you actually look at steams hardware surveys most People are still on dual cores.

Sorry for the typo's I'm on my phone.

Well whoever said that an i7 will last 7 years, and an i5 won't...come on. That's a dumb statement.
