The worst sight to come home to

Thread Starter
Hey guys

After a long day at uni today I was looking forward to coming home and playing some lol on my rig. When I walked into my room though I was shocked to see water all over the floor by my rig and a pipe hanging out. After closer inspection what has happened is the a piece of copper that surround the entire thread has snapped and so the barb with the thread and all have come off simply leaving a hole in my cpu block (Ek AMD if you were wonderinfg you can look at my pics to see what the set up was like). The result of this is that I have got water all over my gpu and although I havn't tested it when im outside pouring water out from beneath the card and the backplate I don't think any testing was needed to tell the card is royally ****ed. The only positive out of it all is that the water managed to miss the motherboard by the looks of it and the psu and basically everything else ( the pipe moved away from the computer when it came off so it got water over the floor not in my case). Its not like I take bad care of my components either I am always very careful when disassembling and re assembling my loop and it had been in the same set up for at least a month when this happened. Has anyone else every had anything like this happen at all because unless I have been doing something really wrong for the last year and a half since I have had it I have never seen any signs of this happening.

my god.... sorry to hear that bro. RIP computer.

This is why I never want to go water. I dont care if my fans die, dont F up my other components. No matter how experienced you are it can still happen.

hope you got the funds to replace everything.

yea well the vcard is in the airing cuboard now i highly doubt it will work and even if it does I will still probably move away from water cooling. Although it has meant I can oc like a machine the hastle of it all is to much. At least everything else in the loop is fine so Ill just sell that and put those funds into a new gcard

If that was a defective barb, will the manufacturer pay for the damage, or are you screwed?

Put anything that got wet into a bag of rice. It'll be just fine, chances are your components are all just fine. This is exactly why its always a good idea to use non conductive liquids (even just distilled water). Yes, it'll become conductive after a while, sure. But honestly....water damage REALLY doesn't harm computer parts most of the time. Even if it is conductive.

Just let everything dry VERY WELL, and it should be fine.

If you were thinking of water cooling before you saw this thread, why would you let this thread stop you? I'll bet on it, that his gear is all fine, short of that one barb.

Why not wait for a few days, let his equipment fully dry, and come back and see if its working or not?

Have you ever dropped a phone in a puddle (or even better yet a toilet...girls do that one all the time)? Guess what, those are all easy fixes too. Bag of rice, and let it sit for a day or two. Phone will start right back up and work just fine once ALL the water is out of it.

Same for PC parts.
