I know I said that. I am now looking into how much data that would really use, uploading a few gigs of data. I know how to tether (With it using mobile data) but was inquiring if there was a way to tether and NOT use data. I now no that it is not possible. My brother was the one who HAD unlimited, but Verizon broke their own contract and took away his unlimited.

Though I may still be able to tether since the past two months I have only used 2 of my 4GB data. Is there a way I can calculate how much data it would take to upload something? Like a 2-3GB compressed video file?

im sure it was answered already, but i use tether now and then when desperate

I forgot the free one i use which works as a storage device and simply accesses th net through your Mobile Data/3g

unfortunately it does not allow use of wifi (in the off case your on a machine with NO internet connection, but have wifi available, as ive had to do on a machine i was working on that didnt like my wifi adapter piece) so you are completely stuck using the Cellular Data

since when did Verizon get rid of unlimited data??

Thats news to me, and they cant just change your account like that ..

Ive been on a super old Sprint Package for a long time, unlim data, text and 900 min for about 70 a month

Pertaining to your brother's act, there could have been several things that could have been factored in to him losing unlimited data, they would be.

1. Changed to a basic phone for a few days then back to a smartphone. Unlimited data was a expired feature as of last July.
2. Ungraded phone after June 28th, 2012. Unlimited data is no longer grandfathered in after this date.
3. Moved to another act (changed names on act). Since the act was a grandfathered act, not all features can be grandfathered in going to new act.

As far as your usage, there really isn't a good gauge. I personally have downloaded a network meter on my Win7 machine and just judge it that way.

Ah. Well, his phone broke, and they told him that he could buy a new phone and have to start a new contract with Verizon with a 2GB plan or whatever or get the phone replaced and keep unlimited. Which he had to pay to replace the phone. Well, he decided to replace it (get the same model phone back) and keep unlimited. Next thing he knows, they tell him hes getting 2GB of data and theres nothing he can do about it basically. What a scam, as I said before.

Liek my Wife just updated to GS3 , I dont have to worry about her not being on the unlimited plan still right??

No, not unless there was special circumstance, like the ones I listed, or something else. If she upgraded here line, and I mean the GS3 was activated prior to 6/28/12, then she has unlimited data, if after 2GB. It's just the way it is. Chances are she doesn't use more than 2GB anyways. I never have ever used more than 2GB on my business line anyways.

If it was after 6/28/12, there is nothing that can be done. He sounds like he used his upgrade, then placing a new contract on the line. The contract whether you want to admit it or not is re-negotiated at time of sale. Meaning 2GB is in effect as of 6/28/12, the unlimited data plan will no longer be grandfathered in to upgraded contracts.
