And my point is that I don't see anywhere near a substantial amount of people giving anywhere near two hoots, let alone one.

The majority of PC user (including hardcore gamers) aren't going to care in the slightest, which is why I don't see why it's being made out to be some huge "thing".

I've been using the preview on my laptop since the day it was out and I'm really trying my hardest to be open-minded and like it. But I simply see no functional benefit over Windows 7 so far. It does seem faster at some things, but the gimmicky feel of it is just plain annoying for a non-smartphone setup.

Windows 8 boots way faster than windows 7. Even on an SSD. Who cares if you have to click on desktop from metro. It's one click!

Really hope valve gets steam going on linux. It would be easier to switch to that then to try to avoid 'once called metro'.

I can understand what you're saying for sure. But it's pretty much the huge chance from 7 to 8. If they let everyone boot right past it, that's kinda like admitting that it isn't very good.

Everyone needs to step back and stop thinking about how angry they are and actually try the OS. Because I was all up in the huppidy puffity angry wagon until I actually tried it and went "Oh they did things other than Metro, mainly improving everything." Mark October on your calendar. Find your official download links when Windows 8 comes out and ride the trial period to see if you like it. If not, reinstall 7.

I agree with you for the most part, Metro is mostly invisible. The only reason I stopped using Win 8 was immature drivers. But Microsoft has spent the past year disabling all of the workarounds people have been using to hide Metro. They want you to use it, since they make money off of Metro app sales, so its not unreasonable to think that Microsoft will keep making it more and more difficult to avoid using Metro.

I'm not saying that I support some huge backlash or anything. People are asking why it's such a big deal but they're intolerant to the answers. I know some guys here are just like "Windoze 8 blows ZOMG imma vandalize microsoft" but as far as I'm concerned, I just can't be supportive of an OS experience being so tightly controlled. I'm not asking or expecting anyone to agree, I would just like it to be known that not all of us have such a narrow-minded hateful position on this.

No, no, it's really not. I have the official enterprise release and we've had 'tablets' for a good month now. Win8 is hard to navigate and requires a complete relearning of how to operate windows with their new metro UI. But please, teach my 3000+ user's how to use metro's new interface when they can barely operate Win7 as it currently is. I don't have the time, or the money to waste in redoing everything that currently works simply because it looks different. Yes, there are server optomizations and what not, but in any corp you are limited by this amazing thing called a budget.

I installed Windows 8 on my machine yesterday. Going at it whole hog! I gotta say that I find all the folks complaining about metro may be not getting exactly what it is. It is the start menu. I am actually quite impressed with the visual appearance of both metro and its apps. The OS seems a fair bit "snappier" than Win 7. I have recently started using a second monitor and I'm told that Win 8 will offer much better support over 7. One other thing I read yesterday, and I should really look for the link, stated that if buisness was to simply consider security issues the transition to 8 would be a no brainer.

One thing I did was bind one of the "g-keys" on my mouse to the windows key. Makes the transition back and forth from desktop to metro simple. I do have a few complaints however. First one is that I would like to also bind a button on my mouse to the charms bar. I haven't figured out how to do this yet and it may not be possible. Secondly, closing metro apps by moving mouse to top of the app then dragging it to the bottom of the screen is plain dumb. I would appreciate an "X" to close out my metro apps. I understand that the need to always be closing commonly used apps is not necessary really,"let them run, our machines can handle the load" ..... will take some getting used to.

So for me Metro is acceptable. I think its shaping up to where the pro's outweigh the cons. In essence the metro "start screen" is a huge improvement over older versions of it. Now if only they could eliminate the need to move my mouse to the edge of the screen for the charms bar, aka "settings", and give me an "X" please.
