Because Valve rocks. They announced it at this years E3 that it was going to be $15 and there was a lot of buzz about it then too. I myself can't wait. Beta has been loads fun.

Personally it reminds me of 1.6 which I do not like. The animations, the sounds (that ive seen so far) are just horrible, it seems like a step backwards from CS:S IMO.

They are trying to be true to the roots of CS. CS was originaly mod and CS: source shipped as a part of HL2. Counter strike has never been perceived as "full game". Although both CS and CS: source are now sold as independent games they where never sold with the price tag of an AAA tile like HL2 (Whats the highest CS: source ever was 25€ retail?)

Sure they could have charged more then 15€ but I think that if they went to close to AAA title prices (like 50€) there would have been some community backlash and as this is Valve and not EA they actually care about the community.
