Slow your horses down, buddy! Overall, Ivy is only 1-4% faster than Sandy. Where are you getting your facts from? "Made up" facts?

Nah it's true. I've heard that as well. Edit: Woops not 10% lol

ANYWAYS.
Step 1 - Buy the 2500k
Step 2 - Buy McDonald's with the rest of your money

For 10 bucks why do you not see 1-4% as a good thing? people pay alot more for that kind of boost. not to mention PCI-e 3.0? higher resale value? Jesus its only 10 bucks?!?! why would any one go last gen when buying new to only save 10 bucks? If you already have a 2500k then yes its not worth it.

3570K 4.2 Delidded

2500K 4.2

3570K 4.7 temps with just Wprime 1024

2500K 4.7 Wprime 1024 temps

IMO...I like the 2500K better..

..because @ 4.7 with 3570K ..all it did was prochot and bsod(prime95).ymmv

I'd have to run the 3570K @ 4.2-3 to get same temps..
4.7 2500K > 4.3 3570K biggrin.gif Is what I prefer tongue.gif
I'd take EvilSplashy's suggestion :yessir.gif:
The IPC difference is negligible..The heat difference is a serious factor.

I go off my own results...

3570k @ 4.9 in wPrime 1024 test - 3:58.017

2500k @ 5.0 in wPrime 1024 test - 4:5.411

Not saying that the 2500K is a bad chip, it is a great chip. It is just old. And the newer tech does beat it, even at lower clocks. And for $10 more why would you chose old tech?

You have any pics of temps with 3570K @ 4.9?

the one you get from the wPrime download page.

As for pics, I do not have any off hand as I've never tried to do a 12 hour stability test with it at those frequencies for the Ivy Club. I know that wPrime doesn't stress it as much as p95 so the temps are lower then they would be under full stress testing load. Not by much though, I would say probably 5-6c at most. Best part is I am only using a simple water loop with nothing fancy (except for the super sexy Liquid Fusion res biggrin.gif). Realistically I would say at clocks like those after 12 hours of testing it would be safe to guess them at 75c give or take a little.

These chips are better then everyone is saying, keeping them cool is the hardest part and that only factors in once you are pushing 4.5+. Then at that level the performance gain really isn't too noticeable unless you are benching, and keeping it cool does start to get tricky.

Ivy Bridge isn't meant for people upgrading from Sandy Bridge. This is a KNOWN fact. And as I read this thread, hoping that someone would tell you the real deal rather than mislead you (just like that). If you're jumping from an older platform e.g. LGA-775, 1156, etc, only then would it be worth it to jump onto Ivy Bridge. And another thing, if someone has a dual-core sandy bridge, now as it's a dual-core processor, also then it makes sense if that person wants to upgrade to a Quad-Core later on and only then Ivy Bridge would be more favourable.

Keep your i5 2400 as for now as you'll only be wasting your money with this thing that wont even be an 'upgrade'.

Ivy vs. Sandy Clock-Per-Clock
Averageits 4% to 5%. Atrough there are some scenarios where that is only 1%, but that is pretty rare. But also these little % depend on board also, some board is faster here, some here and so on.
Ivy bridge has some pretty nice advantage in wprime compared to SB.

True. But that comparison is usually between K chips. His doesn't OC so the performance boost will be larger. If ivy is 10% over sandy then you could probably add another 10% for the extra 1ghz.

But in real life will you probably notice that? Doubtful besides benching, encoding times stuff like that.
