i5-2500k vs i5-3570k - Page 3

If you already have a 2500k, the upgrade is not worth it, if you're aiming for a new computer build you should always go for ivy, more future proof thumb.gif

No one mentioned this, but the 3570K runs at a lower wattage. The CPU will dissipate less wattage so it runs cooler than a 2500K, but will have higher core temps due to several factors (3D 22nm transistors and using TIM instead of soldering the heatspreader to the chip). You would use less power to achieve better performance, even when overclocking/volting.

My 2500K is sitting pretty at 5.4ghz, I run 5ghz 24/7 This would be near impossible with a 3570k due to temps. Head over to the 5ghz overclock club there's only a handful of people reaching over 5ghz on ivy cpu's due to temps

Op if your happy with a modest 4.0 - 4.5ghz overclock get the 3570k if it's only $10 difference, Any more than that then i say get the 2500K
While it is obviously older than the 3570k it is a killer cpu that eats everything you could throw at it

Not true my 3570k does 4.7GHz at 70c 100% load just fine. 4.7 on ivy is like 5GHz or more on sandy. I have actually owned both chips so I can actually speak to that affect. The reason you don't see allot of 5GHz member with a 3570k is because its still a new chip so not everyone has had the time to grab one yet, sandy has been out along time so more people are gonna have it.

People need to stop talking BS on here. yes Ivy runs hotter but has a higher max temp so it evens out.

Yeah Ivy Bridge running hot is BS. My 4.7ghz 3570K only gets to the 60C-70C range during Prime95, it's usually in the 40~50C range during normal usage and gaming. My Sandy ran at the same temps when I had it at 4.8ghz @ 1.4v

As for the 2500K/2550K, not many people got past 5ghz, if they even got to 5ghz at all. Consider yourself lucky for getting 5.4ghz on a relatively "low" voltage.

Edit: I'm also one of those few people who have gotten their Ivy to 5ghz. wink.gif

That is one of the golden chips, i would say there are around 1.5% of these chips.
So it not fair comparison.
2500 on avarage will hill 4.5GHz-4.7 GHz for everyday use(someone corrects me if i am wrong).

Care to show proof of your 4.7 3570K @ 70c with a 212+ evo?

Funny you should say that as my 2500k would not budge over 4.8ghz with my old asus p8p67 pro board.

You assume every 2500k can do over 4.5ghz on air.....doh.gif

Mine can't.

Both chips are essentially going to guarantee 4.5ghz (obviously you can have a worse chip) so why go with the older and slower chip? It just makes no sense. You aren't at all whatsoever guaranteed to overclock higher with SB. It is just the luck of the draw.

Chances are at the end of the day, at max overclocks, Ivy is going to win in terms of performance. So what if IB only reaches 4.8ghz and SB can do 5ghz? SB is still slower. And you have a much higher chance of a 4.8ghz IB chip than a 5ghz SB chip.

Define cant do 4.5ghz on air?? Why because of temps?

I am yet to see a 2500K that gets too hot to run a stable 4.5ghz overclock with an aftermarket cooler, 212+ easilly holds a 2500K at 4.5ghz I know as i used to own one

Yes, I can run 4.5ghz. But it takes 1.4v.

I said can't do ABOVE 4.5ghz on air. As in yes, it gets too hot on my hyper 212+ because it requires 1.45v for 4.6ghz to be able to do anything besides sit idle at the desktop and after a few seconds of IBT its 90C+. And I don't even have a clue if it would be stable with 1.45v as I can't stress test it for hours.

So idk how you can go around saying SB is guaranteed over a 4.5ghz overclock. It is the silicon lottery. Some SB clock bad and some IB clock bad. But on average you are guaranteed 4.5ghz with either. To say buy SB if you want to overclock past 4.5ghz because IB can't is ridiculous...
