Questions about H80/H100

Thread Starter
I'm planning on putting either an H80 or H100 in my current build. I have a 2500k and will probably slightly overclock it but not by much. Should I get the H80 or H100? I prefer having it a bit more quiet so would the H80 be better? Also should I replace the fans the H80 comes with if I go with that? I'd probably replace them with Yate Loons but I hate how they don't have them on newegg

If I were you, get the H100 if you can support it. The H100 will be quieter and more efficient, because of the 240MM width. You can mount four very quiet yate loon fans for optimal cooling capacity and quiet use.

I'd go for a H100 and put some Corsair SP120s on it like I've got. So much quieter than the stock fans and they still cool very well.

Can you hook up the H80 or the H100 to something like a Bitfenix Recon fan controller? Or are they always controlled by the push-button on the actual CPU mount?
The fans or the pump?

The fans can be connected to any 3/4 pin fan port but they need some software to control the speed or some motherboards come with the ability to control them.

The pump can be connected to a fan controller but you need to buy a molex to 3 pin adapter so the fan controller can adjust the voltage.

Both, really. So it sounds like it's fully compatible. The Recon should control the speed of the fans once I set it to, and if like you say the pump can be attached too then it's perfect. Well, as long as the Recon can adjust the voltage. I'll have to look into that a bit more.

2nd on the Corsair SP120's. Connect the pump to the 12v line straight from your PSU. It's better to do that then the motherboard I'm told. Don't hookup the pump to a fan controller. Not sure how many amps the pump draws but you wouldn't want to over do it.
I acknowledge my noobness but let's say you're connecting the fans themselves to a fan controller, but the pump to the 12v line (like you mentioned), what if anything will pushing the button on the unit actually do? Doesn't that button just control the fans?

the button is the H100 fan controller. the pump runs 100% when system is on.

this shows how the button influences the fan speed. this is one for the H80/100 fans
when using other fans (including the SP/AF fans) the controller does not function
correctly and runs the fans @ 12volts. the pump stays 100% reguardless f fan speed.
