The Wet Life! Any extra Ideas?

Thread Starter
So far I've been a fanboy tongue.gif and I wan't to join the wet life! I've been planning on building my first custom water cooled PC for awhile now. I have been reading these forums for 2 years, and I've never once had to ask a question since you all always had the answers posted. Big Thanks for the professional input on products, brands, overclocking and so forth. I come to you guys in need of opinions and advice.

I plan on putting together:
whuuuttt! My first Intel build, I've used AMD on every build but this one. I think I'm making a good choice:)

*Update:

After I continued to obsess on this build, I've decided to add/change/replace a few components. I've crossed out the items already purchased. Thank You to the guys over in FrozenCPU.com! Brennen did an amazing job sleeving my cables! Great Customer Service! I will recommend them to everyone if you haven't used them already!

Would take pictures, but my GF's camera is.. well I have no clue where it is rolleyes.gif but I will take pictures with my 720p 8MP Droid-X once I get more parts rolling in.

XSPC has a nice D5/655 bay res. Or you could get the Bitspower combo and have a tube res with the pump mounted to it.

Everything looks fine. I've never used Koolance rads so I have no input on them. Personally i would drop the anti Kink coils but if you want them thats up to you.

Loop order does not matter asside from the res feeding the pump. Route your tubing for what ever looks cleanest.

Thanks for the input! smile.gif +rep

Anyone know if 6 of the Gentle Typhoon's 1850rpm would be super loud? I heard 8 on a rad on a youtube vid and I'm not sure if that vid gives them 100% justice.

Any info on a nice looking DangerDen resevoir?

Would the monsoon bay res be nice? if anyone has the insider, would they have a tube res coming out? Can't wait for their angled fittings tongue.gif

I'm running 6 of them right now and I hear nothing. I also run them without a fan controller, but it doesn't matter. They are pretty much dead silent.

MX-4, PK-1, AS-5, NT-H1... I don't think you will see much of a difference between those. Although people told me not to use AS-5 since it's conductive, but I did anyway. redface.gif

Thanks for the info! Very valuable information, since the opinions on sound of 6 Gentle Typhoons running simultaneously have not been posted and/or is extremely hard to find. +REP

I would like to know of a good bay res / tube res that is gorgeous and would make the loop POP out! I just heard from asus australia on youtube that any coolant you use leaves residue, even clear coolant which kinda makes me want to go water and killcoil, but as far as warranties go, how does Koolance or any other brand know that you did not use their specified coolants and void warranties?

Does Koolance make good radiators? I haven't been able to find much consumer info on these.. would their be a better option to go?

I'm really leaning on Monsoon everything, and I want their line of products to all finally release because if that were an option I would definitely be purchashing their stuff only because of their gorgeous designs.

As for a good reference PCB card, would any 7970 just do fine? I see some that come with more stock OC than others, but I plan on OC it abit so should that be a determining factor? I usually go with Sapphire because of their repuation, I wanted to go XFX double D black edition, but they are now non-referenced and I really wanna use swiftech's Komodo block.

Thank You all for the replies, very helpful smile.gif

With 6x AP15s in push pull, you could step up to the 20fpi Koolance radiator and get a bit better heat dissipation, as you have the fan power for it. The cost is the same, so that is what I'd do.

Also, for your Sleeved Extension Cables, look at Bitfenix Alchemy, as they are very high quality sleeving and not at all expensive. Their red looks fantastic, and it's heatshrink-less, too.

Otherwise, you have a great looking list.

+Rep for the info smile.gif

FrozenCPU doesn't have that radiator listed, would I have to purchase it directly from the Koolance website?

I put alot of thought into the list, kinda obsessed over it for a long time now. I have drawn out loop set-ups multiple times lol. I just can't wait to finally live The Wet Life!

Stick with Sapphire. Overall, from what I have seen, they are the best 7970's out there right now. I almost got one myself. I don't know if the Ghz editions or the OC version is reference or not. As for the reservoir I'm of no help. I just stuck with the XSPC dual bay.

From everything I have read... just get the color tubing you want. Do not go with clear and food dyes, etc. Stick with distilled water and bio drops or a kill coil. I know it's hit or miss on the dyes causing a problem, but do you want to worry about it? I didn't.

Yea I dont want to worry about it either tongue.gif would there be a good anti corrosive additive for distilled water loops? Read about anti freeze, but don't want to go that route. I will be making a build log once I start to get the items. Any more suggestions would be welcomed. thumb.gif

Hi YourPappyz. I just read most of your original post but skimmed through some, sorry if I missed parts. Skimmed through the rest. I just wanted to mention to you do not be fooled by the myth of GT AP-15's being this mystical magical completely silent fan. Although they are quiet and impressive for the performance they give they are not by any means silent. Especially when you have 3 or more. I used to run 3 on a HWlabs 360 rad and they were definitely audible. By all means though they are great fans.

Have you considered using a different radiator or are you set on the koolance brand? I would highly recommend the Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 Triple 120mm or perhaps the Alphacool NexXxoS XT45 Triple 120mm if either of them will fit. I am planning an upgrade to my loop and I was coaxed into using this line of radiators. They perform amazing at all fan speeds. This should give you a lot of flexibility in your cooling and allow for a wide variety of fan setups. Check out the graphs at the bottom of this link thumb.gif

http://martinsliquidlab.org/2012/04/12/alphacool-nexxxos-ut60-360-radiator/4/

Edit*

also I am not sure on what colors you want but I think this is a sexy reservoir/pump combo. I particularly like the pump mount to reservoir as I find pump is one of the uglier things to see in the case, especially the d5, as great of a pump as it is.

Also +1 on the bitfenix alchemy cables. I owned a set before they are great quality and imo look way better then any other sleeved extensions.
