You can almost buy a Macbook Air for that. Their warranty is basically the same as everyone else's. It might actually be shorter (US example) http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/mac-english.html
They also DON'T cover third-party software, which probably includes 99% of the apps on your iPhone.

That's their price for parts and labor, take it or leave it. Your friend was out of warranty so I don't know why you find it surprising they're charging you. You expect it to be free?

8GB RAM upgrade on Apple's website costs $200. 8GB of Mac memory costs $50 on Newegg, you expect them to charge you for the cost of parts and offer free labor to you? kookoo.gif

A six pack of beer cost about $8 at a supermarket, a bottle of the same beer cost $8 at a bar/lounge/club. That's the price, take it or leave it. I don't see what's the point of complaining, whining and crying about it.

No, it's just one more small touch that Samsung copied to make Galaxy S look like an iPhone. You guys are just too naive to see the big picture on this and try to tear apart every little last detail. Samsung could admit tomorrow that they copied and you guys would still argue for them, it's just stupid.

That's your argument? You'd rather take a biased, cultivated reason as opposed to a detail, practicality (i.e. a phone icon for making a phone call, a folder for housing individual files, etc.), well thought out, analytical conclusion?

No, sorry, but that doesn't make any sort of logical sense.

But but but... then what will I complain about?

This is the stupidest thing i have ever seen why not sue nokia?
Because Nokia would then counter-sue Apple for copying UI elements that Nokia was using in Symbian before the iPhone ever existed. I posted a screenshot of Symbian S60 v3 (developed in 2005) on here not too long ago showing how the menus in it look strikingly like iOS and Android both--only it came out before both of them did.

I hope that Apple over-reaches themselves on this to the point that they get their own patents revoked. It would warm my heart to see them get the same treatment that Rambus got when they patent-trolled an entire industry, claiming they had invented SDRAM and DDR.

No one in the right mind going into business would cover 3rd party damage unless you want to go out of business as quick as you got in it.

Except the $800 was NOT the price of parts and labor. My friend went down to a local computer store, and they fixed it for about $150. There is NO WAY you can possibly believe a screen from a 2006 macbook is worth anything close to that much. I didn't expect it to be free, but I expected it to be reasonable. $800 for a laptop screen is not reasonable. It would have been cheaper to buy a totally new 27", 1440p screen than replace the screen. It's intentionally priced that way. They want to you think "wow, that's expensive. I should just buy a new macbook..."

Again, labor is in no way $150. Let's SAY that they buy the RAM at the price newegg sells it (they dont). It doesn't cost them $150 extra to put in more RAM. They simply grab the two DIMMS from the "8gb" pile instead of the "4gb" pile. There isn't this insanely complicated process they need to do. It would probably take about 10 seconds longer on one of their production lines. Again, its a SCAM. My friend ordered a new laptop this month: Upgrading from 8gb to 12gb? $40. Upgrading from 8gb to 16gb? $80 (all of this was 1600mhz DDR3). Its even a linear scale. It's AWESOME because Sager is an honest company - unlike apple.

Exactly. And then you go to a bar/lounge/club owned by a local guy, and its about $2 a bottle. The owner still makes a profit, but knows that by not price gouging his customers, he'll create a better reputation. Also its this whole thing about being a reasonable person, and not scamming the hell out of less knowledgeable people.

And I pointed out the third-party thing to show how apple's service is no different than anyone else. No one covers 3rd party stuff. Apple isn't this mystical, special company that covers everything.

.

Wait, wait, wait. Are you really trying to justify the $150 extra cost of RAM on labor costs? It takes under 5 minutes to put a couple RAM modules in. So you think $1,800 an hour for labor costs is normal?

As far as the LCD goes, it depends on the quality. A typical 1080p laptop screen will run you $150, better ones around $250. I havn't replaced a LCD on a mac before, but I have on Dells, HPs, ACERs, ect. It usually takes about 30 minutes. So lets say it costs them $300 in parts (I am guessing high side for you), that is $500 for 30 minutes of labor.

When did I mention inventing a piece of technology? I said copying a design. Do you have anymore copy+paste arguments from the Google camp to present?
